The Risk of Rain series is no stranger to secrets, andRisk of Rain Returnsis no different. In the game, there is a secret sixteenth playable character that can be unlocked, but the method to do so is long and convoluted.

Most players will never stumble upon this method on their own. Thankfully, that’s where we can help. Below, we’ll take a look at how to unlock the secret Survivor, the Robomando, including every step you need to take.

How To Unlock Robomando

First Run

To start unlocking Robomando,start a new game on Drizzle difficulty. You can play as any character you want, and use any Artifacts you have unlocked, but youneed to be on Drizzle.

Now, progress like normal until you reach the fifth stage,Temple of the Elders. Here, head to either thefar-most left or right areaof the map, and look for acontainer. No matter which variant of the stage you get, you’llalways be able to find this container at either the left or right sideof the map. Open the container to get theStrange Battery equipment.

With this equipment,proceed through the Teleporter to the final stage, then head all the way to the right, through theCabinroom. You’ll need aKey Cardto open the door to get in here.

In the Cabin, head out theright side, thenjump off the cliff.While you’re falling, quickly move to the left toland on a ledge, then travel down into the cave with thedancing Golems.

Proceed past the Golems and up thesmall ledge at the back of the room. Continue to the left from here, thenjump across the cliffs. On the third platform, you’ll see a chest. Interact with this tostore the Strange Battery. The chest will then teleport away. Now, you can eitherdie or kill Providence; just end your run.

Second Run

Next, start a new game onRainstormorMonsoondifficulty. Again, you can use any character or Artifacts, but youcan not play on Drizzlethis time.

If you die at any point during the second run, youwon’t have to start over this process from the beginning. Just try again!

For this new run, you’ll want tobe mindful of the timerfrom the start, as there’s something you’ll need to do on the third stage that is time-sensitive. We’ll get to that in a moment.

For now, continue until you get to thesecond stage; it doesn’t matter which stage or variation it is. At this stage, you’ll be able to find thesame chest as before. Purchase it to open it and get theStrange Batteryback.

Now, continue to thethird stageand beat the Teleporter event, butdon’t travel through yet. You need to enter the Teleporteronly when the timer is between 22:00 and 22:59. Entering before or after this time will cause the next part to not occur.

You’ll need to activate the Teleporter andkill the boss no later than 21:00to give yourself enough time to complete the Teleporter event and go through.

After going through the Teleporter between 22:00 and 22:59, you’ll be at thefourth stage. Again, it doesn’t matter which variation you land at. Here, search around the map. You’re looking for theRobomando’s body, which will be in a semi-hidden area. You can identify the Robomando’s body by thegreen arrow above it, but no price below it like normal Drones.

When you find the Robomando,give it the Strange Batteryand it will wake up andsteal all your items. Now, simplylet the Robomando killyou to complete the run, and he will be unlocked for you to use.
