One of the features that was improved onSuper Mario RPGin its remake over the original is that the Post-Game is way more complex and offers a lot more to do than the original game. Now, aside from Culex, you can have rematches against the majority of bosses in the game.
Even Culex has a rematch, but this one is way more important, as it unveils a surprise: Culex is now in 3D, and it’s way stronger than before. This is a very special battle, and you can’t do it right away, so you must follow several steps before facing Culex, in glorious 3D.

Beat The Game And Defeat Culex
Thefirst stepto unlocking the Superboss Culex is tobeat the game.Sounds trivial, but this is necessary as the first scene you’ll see after that isToadpaying you a visit just togive you a gift, theStay Voucher.
Now, you are free to explore, but before continuing, you must do something important, beating Culex for the first time. Here’s a guide on how to do it.

Spend A Night In Marrymore
As you beat Culex, now you musthead to Marrymore with your Stay Voucher. The receptionist will automatically see you with it, so you can now spend a night in the most luxurious suite in the building. You can take a shower (and see how Mario turns red), order some drinks, andmost importantly, go to sleep.
As you sleep, you’ll see a brief scene ofGeno taking a look at the window. There’s a shimmering glow going full force on Star Hill, so as you wake up, Geno tells you thatit’s a good idea to explore that zone.Star Hill then gets to be your next destination.

Explore Star Hill
Explore Star Hill as you usually do. You’ll eventuallyreach a zone with purple wish stars, which Geno claims to haven’t seen the first time you were there. These are new wishes; talk with all of them, and now,the rematch parade officially starts.
After exploring the zone, Geno will tell you that you must head to talk with the Frog Sage in Tadpole Pond, but this is totally optional. He just tells you where to go next.

Rematch And Defeat The Bosses
Not all bosses have rematches. For example, none of Smithy’s gang have a chance to fight against you again, which means you have to facesix bosses:Belome, Punchinello, Jonathan Jones, Booster, Jinx, and Torte & Bundt.
you may face and defeat all these bossesin any order you like.

Belome
You’ll find Belome in his temple. The best way to find him is by heading toMonstro Town, thenusing the spring you used to reach that zonethe first time you get there. Belome has an itchy throat, so out of anger, it’ll fight against you.
The best party setup is usingMario, Mallow, and Peach.Peach must have theSafety Badgeequipped, while Mallow should have theBooster’s Charm, as it’llincrease its Magic Attack.

Mallow will dolightning-based Special Moves, like Shocker, asBelome is weak against them.At the same time, Peach will be on the fieldhealing her teammateswhenever Belome sends them to sleep.
As you win, Belomewill cough upwhat made its throat itchy, theSage Stick, the best weapon available forMallow.

Punchinello
Punchinellois having a good time atMole Mines, in Moleville. He’s exactlyin the same place where you fought against himfor the first time. The battle against Punchinellois all about perfect gauge action timing.
Punchinello will have a huge Defense buff; your attacks will deal nothing against him. To attack, aside from Special Moves,he’ll also use bombs. If you performa perfect gauge action commandon the bombs, they’ll face Punchinello, and therefore, will explode on him.

If you don’t do this, the bombswill head towards your party; you need toblock themor otherwise, they’ll instantlyknock out your party.Explode bombs on him15 times, and you’ll defeat him.
You can block the bombs' damage with a gauge action command by pressing Awhen the bombs are running towards their objective.

Booster
Booster isat the top of his tower, playing with his train. The battle against himseems impossible at first sight, but it’s all about set up andbeing faster than him.
You need to have the Feather accessory, and set it to Mallow. Use the Zoom Shoes on Geno, and Mario will be there attacking. Don’t talk with Booster before doing this.

The battle is against Booster and his Snifters. Booster won’t attack andwill focus on repairing the Loco Express 023, whichinstantly defeats the three active members of the party. The Snifters will attack andboost Booster’s(pun intended)speed, so he works faster on the train.
With the setup explained previously, you’ll befaster than Booster and the Snifters. With Mallow, perform aSnowy, as the Snifters are weak against it.Switch Geno for Bowser and perform a Triple Moveto deal even more damage. In the next turn, doanother Snowy, thenswitch Bowser for Genoand keep attacking the Snifters. You’ll eventually take them down.
Booster won’t do anything if alone, soit’ll be like hitting a sandbag.
Torte & Bundt
You’ll find Torte & Bundtin the chapel of Marrymore, guarding the cake.
This battle is the easiest of the bunch. It works like this:the cakeBooster ate long time ago in Marrymoreis back at it again, whileTorte & Bundt are there, igniting the candles. If they manage to ignite all the candles, thenthe cake will perform a very strong attackthat will knock everyone out.
So, the trick here is tofind a lot of Sleepy Bombs. As soon as the battle starts and whenever Torte & Bundt wake up, you must use the Sleepy Bombs tosend them back to bed.In the meantime, attack the cake with all you have. It’s weak to Jump-based Special Attacks, so if you know how to chain severalUltra Jumps, you’ll finish them in no time.
you’re able to buy Sleepy Bombs in theTadpole Pond’s Frog Emporium. They cost one Frog Coin.
Jonathan Jones
Johnny offers a classicone-versus-one battle, Mario against him. He’ll be at his pirate base, waiting for you. Youcan’t use items or Triple Moves in this battle, so it’s all about youblocking Johnny’s attacks properly.
Before talking with him,set Geno and Bowser as active party members, so Mario gets their buffs. Also, equip the strongest weapon you have on hand, theWork Pants, which you’re able to buy in Moleville, and theBooster’s Charmyou got during the adventure. This will heavilyincrease Mario’s attack, which is needed to defeat Johnny.
Johnny doesn’t have new attacks. He’ll go with his basic attack, which isa stab with his spear.TheSkewer, which is the same, but he firstspins his spear a little bitbefore pinching you with it, theFire Saber, and theDiamond Saw.
To parryboth of his spear attacks, wait until Johnny attacks and Press Awhen the spear is about to reach you.To get rid of theFire Saber, pay close attention to the audio cues and press Ashortly after the third warning sound.
Lastly, for theDiamond Saw, which is the hardest to parry out, try tocount how much time the snowflakes spend off the screen, then Press Awhen you feel they are returning.
Jinx
Your last stop is at theDojo in Monstro Town. Here, you’ll findJinx, training with Jagger. Jinx is trying to teach Jagger aboutteamwork, so it’ll challenge you to a battle, which will only end
when you land a Triple Move on it.
To succeed here, buy plenty ofPick Me Up,andsend Peach to the battlefield. This is torevive your party membersin case they get defeated. Then, all you need to do ishit Jinx while filling your Gauge Action Meter. As soon as you fill it up,perform a Triple Move, and you’ll win.
Unlock The Door
As you won against Johnny, andhe gave you the Extra-Shiny Stone, all you need to do ishead to where Culex’s door is to open it.This will automaticallystart the battle against Superboss Culex. This will be the hardest battle you’ll have in this game, so good luck.
