How To Have A Baby

Having a baby in Coral Island is a long-term, multi-step process that can span several seasons or even several years in game, depending on how much you prioritize starting a family. If you’re dedicated, you can welcome a little one within your first year, but to do so, you’ll need to be prepared for parenthood.

First Comes Love

Before you’re ready to start picking out baby clothes and nursery paint, you’ll have to pick a partner from the28 eligible singleslooking for love on Coral Island, meaning there’s a partner out there for everyone. One of the great things about Coral Island is that as long as youwork up to a good relationship level with the eligible NPCs, all of them are willing to start a relationship with you.

Townies don’t have specific romantic preferences, meaning you can go for whoever you want and not get rejected - so long as you’re on their good side. You can also pursue as many singles as you want, as long as you only choose one to date.

Coral Island: The Player Character Giving Wakuu the locket

Townies are monogamous. You can’t date more than one Townie at a time, but you can get to know as many Townies as you would like to before you reach the eight-heart mark.

To start aromance with a Townie, you’ll need totalk to them often, run errands for them, complete their personal quests, and give them giftsto raise your heart level. Once you reach eight hearts with a Townie, you can confess your attraction to them bybuying a locket from the Sanchez Brother’s Blacksmith shop and presenting it to them, which will begin the romance in earnest.

Coral Island: The player character’s wedding to Wakuu

The quickest way to build relationships with Townies is togive them their favorite gifts every weekand to prioritize giving those gifts at island festivals and events. You gain extra hearts from talking to Townies at festivals, so it’s a great time to get to know people.

Next Comes Marriage

Before you can convince your partner to settle down with you for the long run,you need to meet a few of their demands. For starters, your partner won’t be interested in furthering the relationship with youuntil you have reached ten hearts and experienced all of their heart events.

Consider heart events like dates, and at each event, you’ll get a window into your partner’s personality and life story, just like making small talk on a date. You’ll also be ableto chime in andrespond to their dialoguesometimes, which is worth doing for the extra immersion.

Coral Island: An image of Wakuu’s room in the player’s house

Heart events are events that unlock at certain heart milestones with a Townie, and aretriggered by entering certain locations at certain times of day.

After completing all heart events with your partner, you’ll need to convince them to move in with you.You can’t propose to your partner until your house is readyto accommodate them when you get married, so you’ll need to unlock thehouse upgrade three at Dinda’s Carpentry shop, whichadds a second level to your house and a room for your spouseto decorate all for themselves once they move in.

Coral Island: Wakuu talks about marriage-3

Once you’ve completed all heart events and upgraded your house to level three, you’re ready to propose. Head to the Sanchez Brothers' Blacksmith shop tobuy a proposal ringto present to your partner.

The proposal ringcosts 5,000 coral coins.

Give the ring to your partner to propose, andas long as you’ve met the above criteria, your partner will accept your proposal.

After your partner accepts your proposal, the marriage countdown will begin. Your wedding will be scheduled forthree days after you propose and will be held in Alun Alun Square (the festival area by the lake).

Coral Island: The Wedding invitation

You cannot get married on event days.

The wedding countdown should take into account event days. You’ll even get a cute countdown invitation screen after going to bed each night.

Then Comes The Baby In The Baby Carriage

Now that you and your partner have settled into domestic life with each other, you can start planning for babies. After getting married, you will need to max out your heart meter with your spouse, which should be easy to do since there’s no longer a weekly gift cap once you’re married.

Keep your spouse’s favorite gift on handand give it to them each morning to quickly fill up their heart meter.

Coral Island: Wakuu and his baby

At this point, your spouse will start to mention the idea of expanding the family. However, there are two different types of dialogue around starting a family, andonly one of them actually affects your ability to have children.

Until you have met every requirement needed to welcome a baby into your home, your spouse’s ‘Let’s have a baby’ dialogue bubbleswill not trigger a pregnancy or adoption.

Coral Island: Wakuu asks to have a baby

To get to the point where you and your spouse are ready to welcome your new addition to the family, you must make room for your new little angel. Just like giving your spouse a special room was necessary before getting married, youwill need to set up a nursery space for your baby- two nursery spaces, in fact.

You need thefourth, and final, house upgradefrom Dindabefore you can have a baby, and thisadds two identical nurseries to the second level of your house. Each nursery will hold one baby, but so far, you can only have one baby at a time, meaning you won’t give birth to twins.

Coral Island The “Do You Want To Have A Baby” dialogue box

The child cap is currently two children, and it’s unclear if this will change in the future.

Once every requirement has been met, the next step is to wait. Eventually, when you go to bed, your spouse will ask you if you want to have a babyand there will be a choice toaccept or deny this request.

Coral Island: A text box saying that you had a baby

If you say yes, it triggers the behind-the-scenes processes needed to welcome your little one to the family, andfourteen days later, you and your spouse will welcome your new addition to the family.Congratulations! You are now proud parents.

Baby Facts

While babies don’t do much in-game so far, there are a few cute interactions and moments for you to share with your little one.

How To Name Your Baby

Naming your baby is probably one of the most involved things you’ll do when having kids in Coral Island, because when your baby is born,a screen will appear to ask you what you would like to name your child. There’sno randomize button and your baby isn’t born pre-named, so your baby’s name is totally in your control.

Once you name your baby and click enter, you cannot change their name.

A Mini Me

Another fun mechanic is thatyour baby will resemble your spouseso, depending on who you choose to marry, your baby will look different from that of other NPCs. This adds so much immersion to the game andincentivizes you to keep trying out new romances just to see all the cute little ones you can make.

Your Baby Has Their Own Heart Meter And Needs

Since your baby technically counts as an NPC, they’ll function like all other Townies, but the difference is that over time, your baby will eventually grow up.Like all Townies, your baby can be given gifts and be spoken to, butit looks like this is only possible when the baby grows up a bitwhen you get two hearts filled.

After your child is born, your spouse’s schedule will change to accommodate time to care for them, andthey might carry the baby, feed them, rock them, change their diapers, and walk around with them.
