The Entangled Quest inStarfieldis the seventeenth mission in its main storyline. Like many missions in the main quest line, Entangled is based on recovering a newly discovered artifact at a new location.
Since this is one of the concluding missions in Starfield, it is long and complex. The Entangled Mission has multiple endings with tricky puzzles and a twisted plot that can leave you startled. During this quest, you will also make some critical decisions that will affect your mission rewards and companion roster.
Starfield Entangled Quest: Initial Setup
Thequest starts at Freya IIIplanet in the Freya system,where you hear a distress callfrom the Research Station Nishina in orbit. After hearing the distress call, you will be tasked toland at the Research Station Nishina on Freya IIIand investigate the situation there.
Once you land,head to the main entranceand interact with the intercom. You willstart a dialogue with Ethan Hughes, who would be equally clueless about the distress call.
However, after the conversation ends, Ethan reluctantly lets you inside and asks you tospeak with the director of the research facility.
Before you enter, Ethan will ask you toleave your companions outsidedue to security concerns. So, your crew members will not be able to help you during this mission.
After entering the research facility, you mustfollow Ethan to the director’s office. While accompanying him, the setting will suddenly change, andyou will find yourself in an alternate realitywhere the research facility has burned into a ruin.
Thisburnt reality will also have hostile Cataxiwarriors that you must fight while exploring the ruins of Nishna. So, make sure tobring appropriate ammunitionand weaponry on this mission since you will not have any assistance from your companions.
During the shift,your mission objective will changefrom ‘Follow Ethan’ to ‘Explore the ruins.’ As the objective states,start exploring the areauntil you revert to the ordinary reality.
After returning to the original reality again, follow Ethan to the director’s office.
While heading to the director’s office,you will switch between realities twice again, where you will meet Rafael Aguerro during the second shift.
How To Talk To Raphael And Kaia
During your second shift to the ruined reality,you will meet Rafael Aguerro, the chief research engineer at Nishina, who was responsible for the distress call from the facility. While the reality shifts continue, you willgradually reach the director Kaia Patel’s officeand brief her about the situation.
In the dialogues with Kaia and Rafael, you will be informedthat there was an accident at the High Energy Labat Nishina that triggered a distortion in the artifact, causing you to shift between alternate universes.
The director will inform you that while an accident involving the artifact did happen in the high-energy lab,it killed Rafael in ordinary reality. However,the experimental probe is still running, and the staff has been unable to access the facility ever since.
Now that you know the whole picture, the director will ask you toaccompany Maria Hughes(chief scientist at Nishina) to run some tests with the probe control unit so you cantry to access the high-energy labandshut down the experiment.
How To Acquire The Probe Control Unit
Immediately after the conversation with Kaia Patel, your mission objective will be updated to ‘Follow Maria.’
During your walk to the lab with Maria,you will keep shifting realities involuntarily. While this happens,keep following your waypointuntil you finally catch up with her in the Fabrication Lab next to Kaia’s office.
In the lab, Kaia will successfully attempt tocontrol the distortions caused by the artifactfrom a handheld probe control unit. She will ask you tointeract with the micro-distortionsinside the lab, through which you will voluntarily switch to the burnt reality for the first time.
Inside the burnt reality,find another control unitand interact with the distortion to get back to Maria.
Now that you have the probe control unit, you areall set toexecute your missionwithout any inconvenience of shifting universes unannounced.
How To Reach The High-Energy Lab
Before using the elevator to reach the lab, you musttalk to Kaia one last timeso she can clarify the consequences of your actions.Depending on the universewhere you choose to shut down the probe, the other universe will cease to exist. So, in the end,you will have to decide who livesand who dies.
Apart from the two apparent endings,there is a third good endingthat will allow you to save the characters in both universes.
Kaia will also ask you tomeet Dr. Barakove if you need additional suppliesbefore heading out. This offer will add an optional mission objective to your mission log. You can complete it if you are running low on supplies.
When the conversation is complete, you canhead to the distortion near the elevatorto access the elevator in the burnt reality. Before you reach the high-energy lab, you mustcomplete three tasksin the following order:
To complete the above objectives,keep following the waypoint and room labelsin the research facility. A lot of thepaths will be blockedeither in the ordinary reality or the burnt reality.
To access these paths, you mustuse the distortions to switch between universesand access the security terminals.
While overridingthe lockdown in the facilities section, you can choose todisable the remote turrets, robots, and alarms, which will reduce the hindrances in your path as you explore the lab.
How To Shut Down the Probe
As soon as youreach the high-energy lab, you will be prompted todisengage seven different interlocksin the area and stop the probe experiment from the emergency shutdown control.
Depending on what you choose to do inthis section will decide whether you get a good endingor one of the two generic endings. If you want one of the two generic endings, you can disengage the interlocks and shut down the experiment to win whichever universe you want to save.
This willeither kill Rafael or the other staff membersof the facility and permanently remove them from the game.
You can switch between realities using the nearby micro-distortions in the high-energy lab. If you don’t saveRafael will no longer be availableas a recruitable companion in the game. However,saving Rafael will change the final mission rewards.

How To Save Everyone In Entangled Quest Starfield
To save both realities,take the Probe calibration protocolfrom Rafael’s dead body in the ordinary reality. The probe calibrationprotocol contains the instructionsrequired to complete the experiment.
Here are thesteps to complete the calibrationsfor the experiment:
To complete the degaussing in both realities,use the computerto identify the active switches and turn them off and on again. Once complete, verify the degaussing status from the lab control computer.
You can onlyaccess the lab control computerfrom the burnt reality.
Right after the above process is complete,your character will fall unconsciousand wake up in ordinary reality with all the characters alive.As a reward, you will receive an Incendiary calibrated experimental Nishina spacesuit (legendary), 19,000 + 14,800 credits, a Reactive calibrated experimental Nishina helmet, a Superior Constellation spacesuit, and 800 XP.
