Item quality can make a pretty big difference inMy Time At Sandrock. The higher a tool or piece of equipment’s quality is, the more damage you’ll be doing. Citizens of Sandrock may ask for higher quality goods in their commissions, and reward you with more Gols for getting them.
Each time you craft an item or machine, it has a chance to be of higher quality, but it’s not guaranteed. Most often you’ll get the standard quality, and you’re able to’t always just spend tons of resources hoping you get that Perfect or Rare item, especially for a commission. If you need a high quality item, look no further than the Refiner.

How To Obtain A Refiner
Like many machines in Sandrock, you’ll firstneed to use Data Disksto research the blueprint with Qi, the resident scientist in town. The Refinertakes eight Data Disks to research, and after three days, Qi will send the blueprint to you in a letter.
You’ll need five materialsto craft a Refiner: aBronze Blade, Copper Screws, Marble Slabs, Rubber Shells, and Hardwood Sticks.

How To Increase An Item’s Quality
Once you’ve got your Refiner placed down, interact with it and you’ll geta list of every upgradeable item across both yourinventory and storage. Almost any item in the game can have its quality upgraded, andby using gemstones such as Opal, you’ll be able to upgrade an item to one of the four tiers of quality:Ordinary, Outstanding, Perfect, and Rare.
Quality is one of the factors thatdetermine how much an item is worth in Gols, as well as its tool strength, stats in the case of armor, or equipment strength if it’s a weapon.

Taking an item andupgrading itto Perfect or Rare qualityusing the Refinercan potentiallygive it a unique attribute.
In the Refiner, select the item you want to upgrade, such as a Plastic Shell, and you’ll seea box containing its current quality, stats, and items, and which gemstone you’ll need to upgrade it.
Each item will needa few of one of the game’s eleven gemstones, and the cost of upgrading the item increases as the quality gets higheruntil you reach the final quality tier, Rare.In the case of weapons, armor, and tools, you’re able to also continue upgrading Rare qualitymaterials toreroll them for different unique attributes.
You canrefine crafting materials to a higher qualityfor commissionswithout having to spend resourcescrafting one and hoping you get one of the quality you need.
