Friendship In Sandrock
In My Time at Sandrock, there are plenty of lovable characters to meet, befriend, and maybe even settle down with.
Friends your builder can make are denoted in therelationships tabin your menu with ablue backgroundbehind them, with their relationshipmeasured in stars.

Romance optionshave hearts instead of stars, but you’ll need to be friends with your dearly beloved, too, so the tips in this guide still apply.
It’s important to know that youcan’t befriend every character in townby design - some of them just don’t have a friendship mechanic and will limit themselves to small-talk with your builder. However, youcan befriend everyone in the table below, which leaves plenty of room for variations.

In all, there areseven levels to friendshipsin My Time at Sandrock, all of which come with specific perks. The majority of higher-level ones are limited to the romance options, but we’ve detailed it all below.

How To Make Friends
Talk To Everyone, Especially After Major Story Events
Like in real life, the first step to making friends in My Time at Sandrock is bychatting with the townsfolk regularly. You’ll earnone relationship pointevery day just for stopping to talk as you go about your day.
However,after a major story eventhas happened, you’ll have the option totalk to your neighborsabout it. They’ll not only provide their own commentary on the event, but you’ll earntwo relationship pointsfor having this conversation.
You’ll also earn relationship points with the characters related to the main story mission you finished, too.
Give The Right Gifts
Gifting in My Time at Sandrock is a little complex, butgiving liked or loved giftsto your friends is critical to improving your relationships.
Each character will eitherlove, like, accept, dislike, or hateany item you give them, with the majority of the items in Sandrock falling into the neutral acceptance category. For these, you’ll only earn one relationship point.
However, if you can pin downwhat your friends like, you’ll earnup to 20 relationship pointsfor giving them their most treasured gifts.
Each character’s preferences are unique, but you’ll often find thattheir job or personality traits help figure out what they’d like to receive. For instance, you’ll have decent luck giving Mi-an, another builder, building materials.Factor in their interestsand try to give the best gifts.
For the most part,scrap, trash, and manure are low-value giftsthat will most typically result inlosing relationship points instead.These are prettyuniversally disliked, so keep them for yourself.
Youlose points for any disliked gift, so it’s better safe than sorry on gift-giving.
Play Critters And Go Sparring Often
The townsfolk in Sandrock really seem to enjoy asimple card game calledCritters, which is marked in the social menu as aphoto of two animals. Choose this icon to begin a game.
You canplay three rounds each daywith your favorite characters, and you’llearn up to 15 additional relationship pointswith them, depending on how well you do in the games.
Additionally, the people of Sandrock seem to really enjoysparringwith one another - you can never be too on your toes inthe dangerous desert! Choose theboxing gloveicon to begin a sparring match.
The townsfolk of Sandrock enter the arena with varying levels of combat proficiency, but for the majority of them, you seem toearn more points when you win. In fact, plenty of themlose relationship points when you lose.
Complete Commissions

At the bottom of their commission post on the board at the Commerce Store, you’ll see theperson’s face with a number beside itlisted in the rewards. This ishow many relationship points you’ll earnupon completing the work.
Just about everyone can post commissions to the board, and they’re a great way to earn Gols, reputation,andrelationship points.Always try to accept commissions from your favorite characters, as you’ll have limited commission capacity at first.
If you’re not sure if you may finish a commission, it’s better to just not accept it in the first place.Canceling or not finishing a commission will cost you relationship pointswith the person who posted it, as well as a few workshop reputation points to add insult to injury.
You don’t lose points fornotaccepting a commission. They can expire on the board without penalty to you, but you will be penalized for any unfinished, accepted commissions.
Get The Most From Your Social Knowledge Points
Finally, you’ll be earningsocialKnowledge Pointsfor every social interactionyou perform in My Time at Sandrock. Once you’ve accumulated enough to cash out one of your Points, be sure tospend your Points as soon as you can to maximize the reward.
In the Social Knowledge category, you’ll find plenty ofperks that make it easier to make friends.
Every player will have a different order of priority when it comes to spending their Knowledge Points, but sift through and find which perks you think will be most helpful for your gameplay pace.
If you change your mind, Fang offers acupuncture that allows you to reset Knowledge Points if your choices for rewards no longer suit you.
