Zoom out of your city a bit; is there alittle icon in the shape of a house with some money inside? It may only be in a few places, but there is a very real possibility that it appears dozens of times on your screen.
This is the best indicator that rent is high. When you start to see multiple of these icons appear, you should start taking some action. Hovering over the icon will display the following text.
Unfortunately, this isn’t too helpful, especially if you don’t have demand for any other residential type. To fully understand how to fix this, let’s look at what makes rent high in the first place.

In real life, rent is raised when thevalue of the land and the city around it are increased.This holds true for Cities: Skylines 2 as well. When the value of land is increased (through building levels, parks, and services),the rent will naturally increase.
Rent can also depend on the residential building itself.Single-family homes have the highest rent,with apartments having a cheaper rent. The cheapest of all is low-rent housing, which is meant for those who are reallystruggling to pay rent.
Education & Rent
When a citizen is educated, they canfind a better job that makes enough money to pay rent. If, on the other hand, citizens remain uneducated in a developing neighborhood, they may soon be priced out.
When the neighborhood increases in value,any citizens with no education may struggle to pay rent, causing the icons to appear.Try zooming into the house with the icon to see the education level of its residents.
How To Place Low-Rent Housing
Gone are the days of making a giant grid and filling it with a singular type of housing. In Cities: Skylines 2, you will need tomix your housing options instead of having a flat expanse of expensive single-family homes.
Rather than doing the same thing with low-rent housing, we suggestmixing small portions into existing neighborhoods.You don’t need to have ten low-rent buildings in a row, just attempt to place a few here and there. For example, you canplace some near colleges or on the edge of high-density residential zones.

Consider moving a few buildings or structuresthat drastically increase the land value. Be careful though,you don’t want the land value to become too low.
