Just like in real life, hobbies can be very enriching inThe Sims 4, and while knitting might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s one of the best ways for your sims to wind down and have some fun. You might even be able to earn yourself a few Simoleons while you’re at it.
You can unlock the knitting skill and skill-specific items by purchasing the Nifty Knitting stuff pack. The pack contains everything you will need to get your sim knitting up a storm and gives you access to a brand-new form of online shopping, Plopsy.

The Basics
It’s pretty obvious, but in order to get your sim knitting up a frenzy, you’ll first need to buy your sim some knitting tools. The Nifty Knitting stuff pack comes with two different ways to start knitting:the Beginners Yarn Basket and the Super Stash Yarn Basket. Both yarn baskets can be bought in the build menu, but to start knitting, you’ll need to have your simput the basket in their inventory.
Once you’ve pocketed your yarn basket, it’s time to start knitting. You can knit from anywhere so long as you have your yarn basket in your inventory. Rocking chairs, sofas, and beds are all places where your sim can relax and start knitting. Select any one of these items toaccess the ‘Knit…’ menu. In this menu, you can choose whether to start a new knitting project or resume a current one.

At later levels, you’ll even be able to’frog' your knitting project, meaning you can destroy a finished item if you no longer want or need it in your inventory.
Knitting projects get more complex as you level up your knitting skill. Each level gives you access to new knitables. You can knit clothing (for people andanimalsif you have the Cottage Living pack), furniture, and toys. Knitting a clothing item will add that item to your Create-a-Sim menu and your sim’s closet.

Leveling Your Knitting Skill
Unsurprisingly, the best way to level your Knitting Skill is by knitting, knitting, and you guessed it, more knitting. Since knitting is a skill that you can practice from any lot or location, it’s one of the easier skills to increase. To level up quickly, simplyknit as many items as you can.
If sitting around and watching your sim knit for hours isn’t for you, you can also have your sim buy andread a knitting skill bookor have themsit in on a skills class.

What To Do With Knitted Items
While turning your sim into a one-person knitting machine can seem tedious, it’s not without its perks. Your sim cangift, wear, or sellthe fruits of their labor at any time.
Gifting Knitted Items
You can gift any knitable in your inventory to another sim through the gifting menu. You can alsodonate knitted objects to charityif you’re feeling generous, and if you’re not feeling generous, or you don’t want to keep an item that you knit, you can always sell it for simoleons.
Donating knitted items to charityincreases your fame and reputation levelsif you have the Get To Work pack enabled.

Increasing Your Wardrobe
If you’re knitting to increase our sim’s wardrobe options, don’t worry about hoarding all your knitting projects. Once you’ve successfully knit a clothing item, you’re able to unlock it in the create-a-sim menu, and all sims will have access to it. To add an item to your wardrobe, open your sim’s inventory and click on the item you want to add. Choose the option’add to wardrobe',and it will successfully add that item to your sim’s closet from now on.
Youmust individually knit every color optionif you want access to every possible pattern of that item in the wardrobe menu.

Adding a clothing item to your wardrobe will also effectively consume it. You’ll need to knit that item again if you want to sell or gift it.
Making A Profit
Nifty Knitting comes with a brand new type of in-game marketplace. Plopsy - the sim’s version of Etsy - allows your sim tobuy and sell crafted itemsthrough their phone or computer. You can list any crafted item on Plopsy by selecting it in your sim’s inventory and choosing the’list on plopsy’option.
After a few days, your sim might get an offer on their listing. If you receive an offer, head to your mailbox and select’ship on plopsy' to send your item to the buyer. Upon successfully sending the item, you will be paid for the listing.

Listing items on Plopsy increases your fame ratingif you have the Get to Work pack enabled.
Keep in mind that every time you list an item, there is no guarantee that it will sell.Every listing has an expiration datethat you can check by clicking the listed item in your sim’s inventory. If you don’t receive a buyer by the expiration date, your listing is taken down from Plopsy. You won’t get your listing fee back, either. However, you can always list that item again if you’re desperate to sell it.

Every time you list an item on Plopsy, you have topay a five-simoleon listing fee.
Unfortunately, listing knitted objects onPlopsy is the only way to sell them. Unlike other in-game items, you can’t drag knitted goods into the sell box in your player inventory.

Knitables By Level
Every new knitting level you reach adds a new knitable item to your roster, and thefifth and tenth levels add a new social action. At level five, you gain the ability to teach other sims the knitting skill, while at level ten, you can mentor other sims on their knitting journey. The item-per-level list is as follows:
Beanies, animal clothing

Mailbox cozies, plant holders
Small decorations (amigurumi animals, knit cactus, etc.)
Toddler and baby onesies
Sweaters with scarves
Level 10
Children’s toys
You can increase any sim’s skill level with the cheat:stats.set_skill_level Major_[skill name] [level number]. For knitting, the cheat is:stats.set_skill_level Major_knitting x,where ‘x’ is the numeral of the level you’re trying to reach.
Other Useful Information
If you want to speed up leveling your knitting skill, there are a few options available to you.
Moodlets
For starters, knitting is a skill, so practicing your skill while your sim has a positive moodlet is always a boon. It behooves you to start knitting when your sim is feelingInspired or Very Inspired. Inspiration helps build creative skills like knitting just a bit faster.
Any positive moodlet will benefit your sim when practicing a skill. While not all moodlets will increase the speed with which you level your knitting skill, positive moodlets help your sim associate their hobby with good times. Practicing a skill while anegative moodletis active gives your sims a chance todislike that skill.
Sims’disliked skills influence their moodlet memoryevery time they practice that skill. If you force your sim to knit while exhausted, uncomfortable, or angry, they’re more likely to dislike that skill, and if they add the skill to their dislikes list, they’ll automatically become tense when trying that skill again.
New Aspiration
Nifty Knitting also adds a brand new aspiration to your game. Sims can now choose theLord/Lady of the Knitsaspiration in the create-a-sim menu. Like all aspirations, Lord/Lady of the Knits has four milestone levels to reach. The first and second milestones have three objectives each, while the third and fourth have four objectives to complete.
Pack Crossovers
Nifty Knitting and Cottage Living compliment each other very nicely, and having both packs adds some synergy to your game. For one thing, you canuse llama wool in your knitting projects, effectively lowering the cost of starting new projects. The second added benefit is that by having Cottage Living enabled, you may knit animalclothing for llamas, foxes, bunnies, chickens, and cows.
The Get To Work pack also affects your sims' knitting skill. Listing items on Plopsy and donating knitted items to charity will also raise your fame and reputation levels.
