Taking damage inWarhammer 40,000: Rogue Traderis inevitable. When it happens though, it’s best to be prepared with an understanding of how an attack actually affected your party member. While battling, you will encounter injuries, trauma, and wounds. What are these though, and how can you heal?
Here, we are going to be looking at just that. This guide will cover what trauma and injuries are, and how you can recover from these status effects. Additionally, we will take a look at how you can heal your party members both in and out of combat.

What Are Injuries?
Injuries are the result of taking a lot of damage in one round, or from being caught in a trap. To get an injury, the character in question needs totake more than 50 percent damage to their total wounds in one round.
In general, injuries willreduce the stats of your party members, making them less effective overall.

When this happens, the character will have theFresh Injury debuff, which reduces Resolve. If the Fresh Injury isn’t healed within three rounds, it will become anOld Injury, and requires a bit more healing to get rid of.
Using a Medikit on a Fresh Injury will remove it, butthere is a chance that the healing of an Old Injury fails. This uses up the Medikit, leaving you with the Old Injury. Additionally,if you have multiple Old Injuries, you will need to use multiple Medikits.

What Is Trauma?
Trauma occurs when you suffer fromthree or more injuries that go unhealed.Additionally,if a character dies, they will receive trauma. This includes deaths that occur out of battle, such as being caught in an electrifying trap.
The effects of trauma vary, but overall, you will havedecreased Resolve and a variety of negative effects. For example, trauma may give you decreased Ballistic Skill or Strength, which affects how effective you are in combat.

What Are Wounds?
Wounds are your HP.As you are attacked and lose HP, you will essentially lose wounds. This is simple enough, but it’s important to note that some characters can increase their temporary wounds to provide unique buffs.Let’s take a look at the Endure skill (Warrior) as an example.
Endure will cause a Warrior to have reduced damage while gaining five temporary wounds. When attacked, the enemy will affect the temporary wounds, rather than the Warrior’s actual wounds.

So, if an attacking enemy would take five wounds, the Warrior instead just loses their temporary wounds, with no damage to their HP.Think of this as a ‘shield’, with each temporary wound being one layer.
After each battle, your wounds will fully restore. This means that you will have full HP and won’t have to use any extra Medikits (unless, of course, you have injuries).

How To Heal In Combat
While in combat, you can havecharacters with the Medicae skill to use Medikits. As stated in the skill description, Medicae is used to “detect and cure injuries that characters suffer in combat”. Those with high Medicae skills can alsoprovide higher quality healing and prevent Old Injuries before they turn into trauma.
Not everyone can use Medikits at the start of the game. Thankfully, the first companion that you recruit (Abelard) can use Medikits;there is even a mini-tutorial for this in the Prologue of the game.

To heal in combat, you will need to use Medikits, as well asabilities that provide healing effects. For example, theInvigorate abilityrestores the wounds of party members. If the skill brings the character to full wounds, negative effects will be removed, which includes Fresh Injuries.
Overall, this is an important ability to have;we suggest having Heinrix learn Invigorate.
How To Heal Out Of Combat
When out of combat, you can use Medikits as frequently as you want. In addition to this, heading to your Voidship will clear every Fresh Injury, Old Injury, and trauma that affects your party. If you are close to your ship, we suggest temporarily heading back, so you don’t have to use any Medikits,
How To Get More Medikits
Medikits can belooted from chests and enemies, which is one of the primary methods to obtain them. You can also buy Medikits from theFellowship of the Void. You can encounter this group in the first chapter of the game by heading to theunidentified voidship in the lower right-hand corner of the map, which is selected in the map above.
