In the untamed world ofArk: Survival Ascended, your journey will revolve around taming the ferocious wildlife on the Island. While raw meat and berries might tide you through your first Parasaur and Raptor, you’ll quickly discover that these basic foods make the taming process painfully long.
To truly thrive in the wilderness, you’re going to need to advance to the use of better food items, such as kibble and mutton. This guide will teach you exactly how and where to harvest mutton to ensure that you maximize your yield of this vital meat.

What Is Mutton Used For
In Ark,specialized kibbleis generally always going to be the best choice for quickly and effectively taming something.
However, if you haven’t set up a kibble production system yet, mutton should become your go-to option for any hungry meat-eater.

It’s thebest non-kibble foodfortaming important carnivorous creatureslike the Rex and Argentavis, and tames them faster and more effectively than even Prime Meat.
Best Way To Get Mutton
Mutton isexclusively harvested from Ovis, which are the cute sheep that populate the Island.
While these fluffy creatures can beencountered throughout the entirety of the Island, they are more prevalent in thenorthern regions, especially on the snowy mountains.
Though the Ovis aredocile and do not fight back, they can often be found in areas withdangerous predators. Keep an eye out while you kill and harvest your sheep!
Unfortunately, mutton, like much of the food items in the game, spoils rather quickly. To make the most of this resource, you may need to find and slaughter your sheep after already knocking out the carnivor you’re trying to tame.
More advanced players might find themselvessetting up a sheep farmin later stages of the game. These Ovis can betamed using sweet vegetable cakes, andcan be bredlike normal creatures.
Note, however, that it may be more efficient to set up kibble mass-production instead of mutton due to the higher taming efficiency of kibble.
Mutton Harvesting Rates
Below are the creatures best for harvesting mutton, ranked in order of harvesting efficiency.
The amount of mutton harvested directly correlates withthe health of the Ovis.
