InThe Sims 4, your Sim can travel to tropical beaches, snow-capped mountain ranges, vast deserts, and cliff-side coasts. But if your Sim is yearning to discover worlds of bygone game maps, they’ll have to take up postcard collecting.

The postcard collection features popular destinations like the eerie Victorian village of Midnight Hollow (which you may have visited in The Sims 3) and lesser-known spots such as Littlehaven, the picture-perfect suburb that Sims inhabit in The Sims Social. Postcard collecting isn’t an obvious gameplay option in The Sims 4, but once you know how to receive postcards, it’s really quite easy. Opening the mail has never been so thrilling!

How To Get A Pen Pal

You might have thought pen pals were a thing of the past, but the practice is alive and thriving in The Sims 4. Before you can start receiving postcards, you’ll need a pen pal to write to. After all, how can you get a postcard if there’s nobody to send one to you?

Snag a pen pal for your Sim by heading to a computer and selecting the Socialize menu, where you should seea button that says “Find A Pen Pal.“Once you command your Sim to find their new pen pal, you can expect to receive a response within a few hours. You can check for a reply by going to the Socialize menu on the computer once again.

How To Collect Postcards

Now that your Sim has become acquainted with a far-off friend, send at least one letter to your pen pal by navigating toSocialize > Write Letter To > Location. The location represents the town your pen pal is writing to you from.

Writing your first letter unlocks the ability to ask for postcards from that location. You’ll need tomake a pen pal in each location, write a letter to them, and then ask for a postcard to collect postcards from different locations.

Some postcards are easier to obtain than others.Rare or uncommon postcards will likely require you to write multiple letters and ask for postcards more than once.

The mail comes each day (as long as there is mail for you to receive) around 9:00 in the morning. When your Sim checks the mail for their postcard, they won’t be notified when it comes. You’ll have tocheck your Sim’s inventory for the postcard.Once a postcard comes for your Sim, you can keep it in your inventory or hang it on the Bunchapals Postcard Corkboard.

Postcards could come the next day or take multiple days to arrive, so try asking for multiple postcards from different locations if you want to speed up the process.

To hang postcards on the corkboard, purchase a corkboard from Build Mode and place it in your home. Then, you can drag and drop the postcard directly from your Sim’s inventory. You can alsosell postcards for §10 to §40.

When your pet rodent occasionally heads off on its own adventures, it may bring back a postcard from its travels. These can also be placed on the corkboard, but collecting them is not required to earn the My Pen Pal plaque or technically “finish” the postcard collection.
