After obtaining NPCs inEnshrouded, they may ask you to seek out additional equipment for them. This equipment can provide additional crafting recipes, allowing you to make stronger items. One piece of equipment that you will be asked to retrieve is the mortar.
The mortar is used by the Alchemist, who provides crafting for spells, potions, and mana-boosting armor. With the mortar, you may do a bit more crafting with this NPC. In this guide, we are going to take a look at how to find this mortar and complete the Alchemist’s fetch quest.

Enshrouded is currently in Early Access on Steam and as such, the content is subject to change. We will update these articles as required.
The Alchemist’s Mortar Quest
The Alchemist has several quests that you can complete, such as finding the Carpenter. Eventually, you will receive thequest to obtain the mortar and bring it back to him. This quest is simply titledThe Alchemist’s Mortar.
Once you accept the quest, the location will be marked on your map, allowing you toget there without too much wandering. The mortar is found within the Alchemist Tower in Lone Thistle, which is a bit far from the starting area.

We suggest bringing plenty of travel supplies, some of which are listed below.
With a backpack full of supplies, it’s time to set out to find the mortar!

How To Find The Alchemist Tower
We’restarting our journey from the Springlands Spire, however, if you have any Flame Altars set up, feel free to start from there.
From the Springlands Spire, head north; this is towards thedirection of the Farmer’s Vault. On the map above, you can see that the path splits (right before the vault). If you continue north, you will be in a small Revelwood area on the side of a hill. This routetakes you through the Shroud, where there are many enemies around level 11.

If you want to avoid confrontation, you can also take aright before the Farmer’s Vault, looping around on the path marked ‘Back Route’.Doing so will take youpast the Hill of Scavengers, having you head north once you hit a new mountainside.
At this mountain, head north, with the Mistbury Catacombs on your left side. This puts you in the back portion of Lone Thistle, with fewer enemies to encounter.

Regardless of what route you choose, the Alchemist Tower is fairly easy to spot. The structure pokes out above the Shroud, with itsexact location on the map shown above. Our player marker is located directly on top of the tower.
The tower isn’t located on the quest marker. Instead, it’s slightly to the right of the Lone Thistle icon.

If you head along the back way, you may have todo a bit of jumping around through broken walls. There will still be an enemy or two that you will need to take out along the way, but this path avoids most of them.
The highest point in Lone Thistle is where the tower is found, with the entrance pictured above. Thankfully, most of the tower is not in the Shroud; you’re able to stop and catch your breath for as long as you want.
There areno enemies within the tower,so once you make it to the entrance, you don’t have to be on guard anymore. With no enemies,we highly suggest exploring every nook and cranny, breaking crates and boxes. There is tons of loot to pick up!
How To Find The Mortar
The mortar itself is in thebasement of the tower. When you enter the first floor, you may see a staircase that leads down. This area will be within the Shroud, but it’s just asmall room with metal bars.
On the other side of the bars, you may find themortar. At this point, you will need tofind a button within the tower that opens the door to the mortar, but this is where the Powder Balls come in handy.
Breaking The Door To The Mortar
With a Powder Ball or two, you canbreak the stone around the gate and easily walk into the cell. This cuts out looking for the button, but if you don’t have any bombs on hand, don’t worry. The button is easy to find, so we will go over that next.
How To Open The Mortar Cell
The button that opens the cell can be accessed byheading up to the second floor.Once on this floor, head up the stairs going to the third level.Prior to reaching the third-floor landing, you will see adoor frame with boards over it.
Destroy these boardsand head through this opening to an outside platform. Simply follow this platform around until you come to a new opening. Once through, you will see rubble, as well as ajournal entry about the button’s placement causing back pain.
On theright-hand sideof this room, you will see thebutton on the wall.Interacting with this button will cause the cell to open, allowing you to return to the basement and grab the mortar. With the mortar in your inventory, head back home, place it, and then speak with the Alchemist to finish up the quest.
