You’ll be managing and overseeing a variety of specialized Steambots and buildings as you build your city inSteamworld Build, and it takes time for them to do their thing. Materials need to be excavated, transported, refined, and sent all over your city. In the mines, you have to get Guards to deal with hostile enemies.
Maybe you wish your Steambots delivered items just a bit faster or that you could speed up the production of crucial materials like Sheet Metal. It’s all possible, and more, if you invest in Item Attachments. We’ll go over what item attachments are, how you can get them, and all the types available for you to obtain.
What Are Item Attachments?
Item asttachments areequipment for your buildings and Steambot-quartersin the mines, and canprovide a wealth of useful effectsthat can greatly benefit your city,especially in the late gamewhen resources can be more scarce.
They can be equipped by eitherselecting an individual buildingand then going into theiritem modification menu, or byselecting the Item Tool, and thenchoosing the buildingyou want to attach an item to.
You cancheck what item attachments you haveand how many of them you own byselecting the Resource balanceand then switching to theItems tab.
Each type ofoverworldstructure has its own type of itemthat can be equipped:
Buildings canonly be equipped with one item attachmentat first, butunlocking Grand Gully’s Landmark Buildingallows two items to be equippedper building.
How To Obtain Item Attachments
There aretwo waysto obtain item attachments:purchasing them at the train stationfor cash orfinding them in chests in the mines.
Once youreach Milestone 3 andrepair the Abandoned Train Station, you’ll unlock the ability toobtain and purchase item attachmentsfrom the Train.
The trainarrives every five minutesand brings with it aselection of three item attachmentsfor you to purchase, such asMiner Equipment or Warehouse Items, though it canoccasionally offer Gold or Rubiesto buy instead.
The train’s arrival schedulecan be sped upby obtaining andplacing Giddy-Up Gorge’s Landmark Buildingon a given map.
When you unlock and repair the Abandoned Mineshaft, you’ll gradually unlockthree different mineshaft floors, each containing aroundten to 15 treasure chests. Other than the one chest guaranteed to give a blueprint, you getone random item attachment per chest.
Building Item Attachments
Buildingitem attachments come inthree categories: Warehouse Items, Service Items, and Production Items.
Eachbuilding in the game fits into oneof the three categories and can equip items, except forresidences, whichdon’t get attachments.

Warehouse Expansion
Adds25 more spots to your Global Storageamount and allowsthree additional simultaneous deliveries.
Refinery items apply to anybuilding that produces or refines materials:
Production Chance
Production buildings have a15 percent chance of producing a bonus itemper material creation.
Production Chance+
Production buildings have a25 percent chance of producing a bonus itemper material creation, and theproduction speed is increased by 80 percent.
Production Speed
A building’sproduction speed is increased by 40 percent, and theydeliver items 100 percent faster.
Production Speed+
A building’sproduction speed is increased by 80 percent, and theydeliver items 200 percent faster.
Lowers Steambots neededto run a production buildingby 90 percent.
Service Items
Service items apply to anybuilding that provides a need or serviceto a bot:
Extends the building’s range so it canaccommodate five more citizens.
Steambot Item Attachments
ForSteambot quarters in the mines, they havetheir own item attachments, andeach Steambot typein the mines gets a range ofitem attachments with bonuses specific to them,as opposed to getting access to various attachments meant for their type of building.
Like with buildings, item attachments can be equipped onto a quarter by eitherselecting it directly, then going to itsitem modification menu, or byselecting it with the Item Tool.
You canstack up to three of the same attachmenton a Steambot’s quarters, allowing you todouble or triple the effect.
Guard Steambots,in particular, have theirown special Item Attachmentsthat function as actual equipment andprovide them with different means of attackinghostile enemies in the mines.
Eachindividual Steambot quarterwithin the mines can haveup to three item attachments, but these attachmentsonly affect Steambots on that floor, so you’ll sometimesneed to swap attachments arounduntil you get more of them.
The item attachmentbonus provided by Grand Gully’s Landmark Buildingalsoapplies to Steambot quartersin the mines after being placed, allowing them to haveup to four items.
Debris Bonus
Miner Steambotsclear debris 200 percent faster, and theirmovement speedisincreased by 33 percent.
Digging Bonus
Miner Steambotsdig 200 percent faster, and theirmovement speedisincreased by 33 percent.
Minersperiodically find Gold Nuggets.
Reinforcing Bonus
Minersreinforce wall tiles 200 percent faster, and they get an additional33 percent more movement speed.
Machine Reparation Bonus
Mechanic Steambotsrepair broken or disabled machines 200 percent faster, and theirmovement speedisincreased by 66 percent.
Mechanics willperiodically find Sheet Metal.
Steambot Revival Bonus
Mechanic Steambotsrevive disabled Steambots 200 percent faster, and theirmovement speedisincreased by 66 percent.
Flamethrower
Equips Guard Steambots with a flamethrower, andallows them to burn enemies and The Creep.
Rifle
Equips Guard Steambots with a rifle andallows them to do ranged damage.
Revolver
Equips Guard Steambots with a revolver and allows them to doincreased ranged damage.
Shovel and Shield
Increases Guard health by 150 percentand allows them totaunt enemies, drawing them away from machines and other Steambots.
