Initiation 8, a late chapter inAlan Wake 2, is much shorter than the adventure in the Oceanview Hotel but still has some stumpers that make full use of Alan’s reality-bending abilities. Not only will you be using the Angel Lamp and the Plot Board extensively, but your positioning when you do so becomes more crucial than it’s ever been before!
The main challenge at the movie theater is getting into the projection booth, where another Overlap waits to facilitate a brief meeting between Saga and Alan. This guide will help you solve the puzzles that stand between you and another part of the mystery!
How To Enter The Cinema
The Poet’s Cinema is in thenortheastern corner of the Dark Place’s main area. Until you get the Movie Ticket from Tom Zane, however, your path will be blocked by a Darkness Barrier. Once you have the Ticket, you candestroy the Barrier with your flashlight.
When you arrive at the movie theater, the front doors are locked.Use the ticket that you received from Tomon the booth between the two doors; they’ll unlock, giving you entrance to the Lobby.
Inside, there is aBreak Room on the rightand a closet in therestroom to the leftthat contains a large case full of useful supplies, including aFirst Aid Kit.Once you’ve explored to your satisfaction,take the stairs to the balcony aboveand view the Echo there.
Apply theCult Of The Wordto the Lobby on the Plot Board; a path will openbehind the concession stand,but at the same time the door will be barricaded.Remove the Plot Element, then stand on the other side of the door (inside the kitchen); when you reapplyCult Of The Word, you’ll be on the other side of the barricade and able to view a second Echo.
Use the new Plot Element,New York’s Finest, to remove the barricade andopen the door to the Theater Hall.Inside, climb onto the stage via the side stairs andview the Echo.
Next, go to thelit room at the rear of the theater.Use the Angel Lamp to take the light from the room, thenapply New York’s Finestto open the door to the stairs. You won’t get far, since thedoor to the Projection Room is locked.
How To Enter The Projection Booth
Return to the room at the bottom of the stairs andapply Cult Of The Word. Several Shadows will appear, but so will an Echo that gives you a new Plot Element,Clip Of The Lost Film.Use it to change the movie being shown on the screen.
Watch the screen until Zane appears, thenuse the Angel Lampto light the copy that he’s holding. He’ll reveal adoor to the alleyway outside.
Once you leave through the alley door you won’t be able to come back that way.
Outside,save in the Break Room to the right, then go to the area near the fire escape. ApplyNew York’s Finestto make a police car appear;stand on the far side of the grated wallthat its headlights are pointed toward, thensteal the light from the headlightswith the Angel Lamp.
A door will appear behind you; use it to find aladder to the roof.Once you’re there, switch toCult Of The Wordthen look for a gate to your left. Follow the path until you come to a ladder that leadsbehind the theater’s sign.Stand where themissing M in “cinema” should beand look down to trigger an Echo and get theGrandmasterPlot Element,
There’s another Break Room at the top of the ladder.
Make your way back to the alley, evading or defeating the Shadows that will have appeared to block your path. Remember tochange the scene back to New York’s Finest, or the door at the bottom of the ladder won’t exist.
When you’re ready to move on,apply The Grandmasterto the alleyway. Inspect the shaft to the left of the fire escape stairs, thenclimb upto where the previously-locked door is now open. It leads to the second floor of the lobby, and you can now use it totravel between the cinema and the alleyway.
Return to the theater anduse The Grandmaster; a door will appear on the movie screen. Enter it, thenfollow the paththrough several loops to reach the Overlap.
