While playingArk: Survival Ascended, your most important goal will always be to stay alive and explore your surroundings. However, being able to design and recolor your armor and buildings becomes a close second since it’s also important to get comfortable once you get used to the general mechanics of the game.

Thankfully, you can start using this mechanic quite early in the game as long as you know what to do. Each type of colorable item is also divided into various sections, which allows you to add even more depth and detail to these items.

Ark: Survival Ascended is currently in Early Access and the content of this guide is subject to change.

How To Craft Dye

If you want to start making Dye in Ark: Survival Ascended, you’ll need a Cooking Pot, a source of water, and a ton of berries. You can’t use pipes and water tanks in the Cooking Pot, so it’s recommended to make itnear a river or the ocean to have easy access along with Water Jarsin your inventory.

Once you have the Cooking Pot, the first thing you should do is enter its menu and disable auto-craft. This willstop the pot from crafting random Dyes as soon as you put in the required items. After that, place the berries of your choice, water, and some fuel to light up the pot. You can now browse through the Dye menu and craft them.

Every time you craft one Dye, it’ll create them ingroups of five.

How To Use Dye

Once you have the Dye created, move it from the Cooking Pot to your inventory. Now, open the inventory andhead over to the Cosmetics section to find it. You can simply drag the Dye from there to any piece of armor that you want to apply it to. This will open up a menu with multiple slots on the left side.

Choose the Dye you want for each slot(or leave them empty if you don’t want the part to be colored) and press Apply. You can just head back out of the menu once you’re done. The best part about having Dye in Ark: Survival Ascended is that it doesn’t have any weight.
