InStarfield, scientific discoveries can be just as important as advances in weaponry, combat, and medicine. Sometimes, scientific discoveries can lead to startling conclusions that could affect the lives of everyone involved.
In the Out On A Limb quest, you’ll partner once again with scientist Kelton Frush to find out what is happening with the trees in New Atlantis and what it means for the lives of the people who live there. However, he needs more data from another scientist that Kelton dislikes, and you are the only one who can help him.
How To Start The Out On A Limb Quest
In the previous quest,A Tree Grows In New Atlantis, Kelton discussed with you that theinsides of the large tree outside the MAST building have liquefied, and it isvibrating at a low-frequency that is steadily increasing in strength.
Once you’re able to speak with Kelton again (usually 24 game hours after the first quest), he’ll mention that he needs data from younger trees to compare to what he has of this tree.
However, the scientist who holds this information,Emilio Hadek, is a rival of sorts and has refused to hand over the data. Kelton asks you togo to Emilioand see if he’ll give it to you instead.
How To Get Tree Data From Emilio Hadek
Emilio’s location will be marked on the map.You’ll find him standing near another of the treesin New Atlantis.
Once you start the conversation, he realizes that you’re working with Kelton and,at first, refuses to give you the data.
Then he decides that he’ll give it to you only if youhelp him get a promotionby deleting some bad performance evaluations from his record.
In order to continue the conversation and get the chance to persuade him, you have to choose“Fine, I’m in.”Your companion won’t like it, but it’s the only way to progress the quest.
You now have two options:persuade Emilioto give you the data Kelton needsordo what Emilio asks.
How To Delete Emilio’s Performance Reviews
If you fail your persuasion checks or choose to do Emilio’s favor, you will need tobreak into the Chief Engineer’s apartmentandhack their computer.
The apartment you’re looking for is in theOrion Towerin theResidential District. Take the elevator up to theResidences level,turn right, and it’s thefirst door on your left.
Use adigipickto unlock theNovice level lockand enter the apartment. Use the computer on the right and selectPurge All Filesto delete Emilio’s personnel files, then leave the apartment and head back to Emilio.

Secret Choices: Pickpocket Or Kill Emilio
If you don’t have the patience for persuasion or deleting files, there aretwo other possible ways of dealing with Emilio.
If you have theTheft skill treeactivated, you’re able to sneak around behind him in stealth mode andpick his pockets for the data.
Or,you can kill himand thenloot the data off of his dead body. But make sure to do it when no guards are around to see.
Killing Emilio will causeyour companion to be angry with you,and they willno longer be your active companion.
Bring Data To Kelton
Once you’ve obtained the data from Emilio,return to Keltonand give him the data. He says he doesn’t want to know the details regarding how you got the data but is pleased to have it all the same.
The quest ends with a modest reward of100 XP and a few credits.
As before, you must wait 24 in-game hours to begin the next quest:Late Bloomer.
