It’s been over a decade since the release ofPortal 2, with the title becoming a cultural icon that’s gone on to spawn years of memes and references. Now, a new modder has released hours of new content in a game-sized mod calledPortal: Revolution.
The first chapter of this Portal mod gives you some basic background and an understanding of the world, as well as some uniquely challenging puzzles.
Portal: Revolution Chapter One Complete Walkthrough
You’ll need tosolve around 10 puzzlesto complete this chapter, including the areas at the beginning and end. It serves asan introductionto the game’s mechanics, similar to past Portal games, butyou won’t have access to the orange portal just yet.
The chaptercan take around an hourto complete without any help, with some ofthe latter puzzles being exceptionally difficultto finish. However,these solutions shouldhelpif you get stuck.
Intro: Wakeup
When you first start the game,you’ll wake up in bed inside a cubed habitatwith a hole in the ceiling. There will beabout a minute of the machine’s soundsas it slides your cube into place before you come to a stop and a voice begins giving your information. Thenyou’re finally allowed to stand.
Listen to the voice andfollow its instructionsto head to the monitor near the door of the room. When prompted,press the red button and exit the roombefore you follow the path to an elevator. Thiswill take you to the next section.
Cube and Button Based Testing
When you get off the elevator,continue straightuntil you get to thefirst puzzle room with a glass walldirectly in front of you. You’ll need towait for the button to be loweredfrom the ceiling, but thenpress itto create an orange portal.
Go through the blue portal to your right and then continue to the next testing area. Drop down and press the button directly to your right, which will drop a cube in front of you. Pick it up byholding the ‘Use’ buttonanddrop it on the large red buttonbehind you.
Continue through the small hallway to the next area.A cube will automatically dropin front of the door when you walk in the room.Take it to the big red buttonin the corner of the room and drop it. Go through the opened passage andpress the smaller button, which unlocks the door.
When you go to the area where you can see the Portal Gun spinning, you’ll need towait for the voice to finish speakingfor the door to open. When it does, proceed down the stairs andwait for the gunto shoot a portal near you.Go through it and wait.
When the portalappears on a different wallinside the chamber,go back through the orange portaland pick the gun up.Shoot a wall, go through,and thenshoot the wall near the exit door, allowing you to pass.
Emancipation Grills
When you get off the elevator,go up the stairs and through the doorsinto the first test chamber in this section. There will be a cube that automatically falls from the dispenser. Wait for it to stop moving and then place a portal underneath it tohave it land on the raised platform.
If you place the blue portal before the cube lands, it will fly across the room. Justdrop it in the blue portal.
Go through the blue energy field, which willget rid of your blue portalbut leave the cube in place.Shoot a blue portal on this sideof the energy field andgrab the cubefrom the raised platform.Place it on the big red buttonand go through the unlocked door.
When you go into the next testing room, you’ll need towalk through the energy fieldandpress the button for a cube.Shoot a blue portalnear the dispenser andcarry the cube throughbefore youplace it on the big red button. This gets rid of the energy field.
Once the energy field is gone, shoot a blue portal toone of the panels on the raised platform. Carrythe cubethrough the orange portal andplace it on the buttonto unlock the door.
Thermal Discouragement Beams
As always, get off the elevator and go up the stairs into the testing area.Go through the energy fieldand to the edge of the platform totrigger a prism cubethat will fall from the ceiling. Drop to the lower level,pick it up, and shoot a portal totake it to the first area.
Once the prism is in that area,drop itand go through the energy field. Shoot a portal on the wallopposite the fieldand go through it toget back to the first area. Take the prism andaim the laser into the portalthrough the energy field. Then, go through the orange portal and the unlocked door.
Advanced Cube Mechanics
To begin, go through to the first testing area and drop to the lower level.Shoot a portal on one of the lower wallsandgo throughto get to the cube button. Press it and thenshoot a portal on the far wallbehind the button. Take the cube through andplace it on the button.
Go backthrough the orange portalandshoot a blue one into the far wallthrough the new opening. Spawn a new cubeandtake it with youthrough the orange portal,leaving it on the red button. Travel back to the cube button andshoot a portal on the far left wallnear the now unlocked exit door.
When you walk into the next test area, therewill already be a prism cube on the left sideof the room.Take it to the large button on the right sideand leave it there.Go throughthe disappeared energy field,pick up the storage cube,andswap it with the prism.
Take theprism cube through the energy fieldanddirect the laser into the port. Go through the door and the hallway into the next testing area. When you enter the next area,go to the edgeof the platform andshoot a portal onto the concrete slab. Thenjump from the edge into the portal, launching yourself near the exit door.
Once across,shoot a portal on the slabunder the cube dispenser beforepressing the button. This will launch a cube across, allowing you toplace it on the button and unlock the door.
In the next testing area,go through the blue energy fieldand shoot aportal onto the platformunderneath the cube dispenser.Go into the open door,press the button, andwait for the door to openagain. When it does,wait until the cube goes through the blue portaland thenshoot one high on the far wall.
When the cube launches to you,take it to the closest buttonto move the orange portal and get rid of the energy field. Thenput a blue portal underneath the prism cube dispenserbefore you press the button. Put anotherblue portal on the far high walland use the prism cube to replace the other one.
Take thestorage cube to the button in the other room, then go back anduse the prism cube to direct the laser to the portthrough the glass.
Aerial Faith Plates
When you go into the testing area,use the Aerial Faith Platesto get across the level before youshoot a portal on the far platform. Take the launcher on that side toget back acrossand press the button toactivate the storage cube dispenser.
Once the cube comes out of the orange portal,shoot a blue one on the area on the floornear the dispenser button. When the cube comes through,grab it and take it onto the launcherto get across the level.Place it on the buttonand thentake the launcher back across, going through the blue portal you just placed.
When you’re going in between portals in the air,shoot a blue one on the angled platformwhen you are about to go through the orange portal. This willlaunch you into the second area, where you can see the ball dispenser.Shoot a portal on the platform under itanduse the same method to launch the ballto you.
Grab the ball and place it in the holderto progress through the door.
Final Examination
When you walk into the eighth testing chamber,shoot a portal on one of the lower wallsto get to the second level. Then, turn around and activate the prism cube dispenser.Shoot a portal to the lone panelnear the red button andtake the prism cube through.
Once through,use the prism cube to aim the laserthrough the blue portal. This will activate the raised platform,so go to the ground level and shoot a portal thereto lower the platform again. Jump on the lowered floor and thenshoot a portal on the far sectionto activate it again.
Once on the top level,grab the storage cube and walk off the edgeto get to the level near the orange portal.Go through it and place the storage cube on the red buttonbefore using the same method to use the elevator again. Once up there,shoot a portal and go throughthe wall opposite to the laser port.
Spawn a new prism cubeand use it toaim the laser through the orange portalinto the laser port.Go through the portal and the unlocked doorto proceed to the next test.
In the next test, go all the way through the first area todrop in between the two energy fields. Shoot ablue portal on the far wall, go through, andspawn a cube using the buttonto your left. Take it back through the portal andplace it on the large red button.
Shoot aportal on the far wall, near where you came in, and thenspawn a new cube. Take it through the portal anduse it to block the laserbefore you shoot theblue portal on the side of the light bridge, causing it to extend across the gap.
Walk across andtake the launcher to the area near the laserand shoot a portal there. Go through,spawn a new cube, anduse it to block the laserfrom the other side.Create the light bridgeagain, go across,get launched again, and thenplace the cube on the buttonto unlock the door.
Continue through to a launcherthat will send you through a wall that opens and into an area with a ‘Congratulations’ banner.Wait for the robot to finish talkingand then follow his directions topress the red button near the doorbehind you.
Press the next red button you seeto spawn an orange portal before yougo back out into the hallway and spawn a blue portalon the far wall. Go through and then into the next area, where you’ll see another red button. Before you press it,shoot a blue portal onto the concrete wallthrough the window.
Press the button and then run throughthe orange portal andinto the scanning machinebefore time runs out. Once completed, go back through the doors marked ‘Authorized Personnel’to get back to the starting area andtake the square yellow elevatorpast the banner.
