Epic Games first launchedFortnitesix and a half years ago, which means that we have all grown and changed alongside its evolution. Sometimes, this can also mean growing out of an old username and making the decision to change it to something more fitting to your new self.

Thankfully, alongside other gaming companies in recent years, Epic allows you to change your in-game username relatively easily. However, you should decide beforehand what it will be, as there may be a brief time limit before you may change it again.

How To Change Your Display Name

Your Epic Games display name ishow people will see youin every game you play with your account.

Make sure that itabides by community standardsto avoid action against you.

In Fortnite,your display name can either be your Epic Games usernameif you’re on a PCor your console IDif you’re playing through one of those services. Depending on which platform your account is tied to, you may need to access your Epic Games account online or change your Xbox Gamertag or PlayStation username.

You won’t be able to change your Epic Games name until you’veverified your email address.

To change your Epic Games username, you’ll need to go through the publisher’s official website, where you can alsoconnect your Epic Games account to any consoleplatform.

If youconnect your Epic Games account to your console’s account, you’ll be able to track your Fortnite progress on any device, but your username will remain the same.

You can do this if youlog in to the Epic Games websiteandclick the ‘Apps and Accounts’ sectionon your account.

How To Change Your Epic Games Display Name

On the Epic Game’s website, you canhover over the image or initials for your accounton the top right of the screen. Once the menu opens, as shown in the screenshot,click the ‘Account’ option to open your settingsand see your personal information.

When you open your account page, you’llnotice your Display Name under the ‘Account Information’ page. Click the blue box with a pen and pad in it tochange your display name.

You’ll be prompted by the pop-up above that has abox for your new name and the conditions for changingyour display name. This includesa two-week restrictionuntil you’ll be able to change your display name again, as well as the requirements.

How To Change Display Name On Console

When playing on a console, your Display Name in Fortnite will always be the online ID assigned to that platform. However, when you play crossplay through Epic Games,yourfriends on any platform can see your Epic Games accountas long as it’s connected to that console’s services.

To change your display name in Fortnite on a console, you’ll need togo through that platform’s services. However, whether you’rechanging your Online ID on PlayStationorreplacing your Xbox Gamertag, you should be aware thateach console offers some limitations and warningsbefore you can do so.

For example, PlayStation warns that any legacy content on PS4, includingpurchases and saves, could be voided or disappearif you change your name.

BothXbox and PlayStation will charge you to change your usernameafter the first time, so make sure that you’ve picked one that you can stick with toavoid unnecessary fees.

You canchange either platform’s username online or through the console itself, which offers an immediate option. Be warned that you may need to follow some verification steps in some cases, which can make the process take a little longer.
