The developers ofHonkai: Star Railare keen on expanding their endgame content through the Simulated Universe as the mechanic gets constant new worlds and game modes added to it. During the Version 1.6 update, a new game mode called Gold And Gears was added to this universe.
If you manage to unlock all the secrets by playing this mode, you’re able to get your hands on the Erudition path, which can then be used anywhere else in the Simulated Universe. However, this is a time-consuming procedure and you have to keep a few things in mind.
How To Unlock The Gold And Gears Mode
The requirement to unlock and take part in the Gold And Gears game mode is quite simple in Honkai: Star Rail. You simply have tobeat the fifth world of the normal Simulated Universeat any difficultyby defeating Kafka. However, if you’ve fulfilled this requirement recently, you won’t be able to get far in this game mode.
The first difficulty for Gold And Gears has a recommended level of 66, which shoots up to 73 in the second difficulty. However, it’ll still bequite difficult to beat even if all your characters are on the recommended level. Thankfully, the game gives you quite a lot of buffs just for playing the game mode even if you get defeated.
Complete Gold And Gears Walkthrough
If you’ve played the Swarm Disaster game mode in the Simulated Universe, you’ll find quite a lot of similarities here. Firstly,Gold And Gears is also divided into three planes no matter which difficulty you play. Each plane has you fighting a boss at the end, but you might also have to fight Elite enemies on random floors.
As you get to the final room in the first two planes, you’ll get to select one of the two bosses. Depending on the boss you select, thefollowing changes are made to the final battle in the third plane:
For example, if you choose the Abundance Extrapolation in the second plane, itcan get triggered randomly throughout the final battle.
Whenever the Extrapolation gets triggered, all theenemies on the field will get to heal up and remove a debuff.
Gold And Gears also see a countdown system as you’re moving through the rooms. Thiscountdown can be seen on the top left side of the plane screen, and it gets reduced by one for each movement. If the countdown goes below zero, Planar Disarray triggers, and all the enemies you encounter start getting random buffs based on the negative countdown:
Negative Effects With Each Level
1-5
Enemies deal 5 percent more DMG and receive 4 percent less.
6-10
Enemies deal 10 percent more DMG, receive 4 percent less, and their SPD is increased by 5 percent.
11-20
Enemies deal 20 percent more DMG, receive 4 percent less, and the SPD is increased by 10 percent.
21 and above
No stat changes past Planar Disarray 21.
Ideally, you’d want to get amaximum of Planar Disarray Fiveduring your run.
As you progress during your run in the Gold And Gears mode, you’ll start accumulating some Neural Impulses. These will begiven to you at the end of the run regardless of the outcome. You can use your Neural Impulses in the Neural Network section to get various permanent buffs for the mode, just like your Ability Tree in the Simulated Universe.
You’ll have to play this game mode quite a lot and unlock all the possible buffs if you want to beat the hardest difficulty. Even after you beat Difficulty Five, theConundrum Mode unlocks where enemies get various buffs with each Conundrum level.
How To Unlock The Erudition Path From Gold And Gears
Before you beat the Gold And Gears game mode in Honkai: Star Rail, you’ll only be able to use the Erudition path here. However, once you fulfill certain conditions,you will be able to use this path anywhere across the Simulated Universe. Apart from the Countdown, each run of Gold And Gears also features a mechanic called the Cognition Value.
This value will be at zero from the start of the run, but it has a chance ofgoing up or down randomly whenever you enter a certain room. When this happens, the rooms in your plane will switch randomly and you’ll see a new special room spawn somewhere on your path. This room can be used to manually change your Cognition Value.
The game gives you arecommended Cognition Value thresholdfor each plane at the start of the run.
If you can keep your value within the recommended frame, youget some bonus rewards after beating the final boss.
While you don’t have all the secrets unlocked, therecommended Cognition path will always be the one that unlocks some of themfor you. You can unlock various Trailblaze Secrets depending on your Cognition Value at the end of each plane, andthese can be seen in the Gold And Gears sectionof the starting area.
Once you’ve unlocked all the Trailblaze Secrets in a certain plane (one, two, and three), you’llstart unlocking Aeon Secrets simply by completing those planes in subsequent runs. Finally, once you’ve unlocked all the Aeon Secrets, the Final Chapter will be unlocked through a special run at the end.
You’ll also unlock theErudition Path along with the Final Chapterat the end of this special run.
How The Dice Mechanic Works In Gold And Gears
The most outstanding feature of the Gold And Gears game mode is thepresence of various dice passives and the ability to customize your own dice. In the Dice Customization section, you can find up to 12 different dice, each with its unique passive. You can also edit the six dice effects you want for each die.
Whenever you trigger the passive effect of your current die during a run,you’ll get a Path Boost, which has different effects based on your path. This path boost is extremely important to beat the final boss in your run, so make sure you choose these passives and the dice face effects wisely.
For example, every time you trigger the passive with the Erudition path,you may get an Ultimate DMG boost.
The 12 dice in Gold And Gears are divided into four categories:Beacon, Domain, Knowledge, and Heterogeneity. For the first three categories, you’ll have to beat any difficulty with the first dice to unlock the other two. However, you may unlock all dice passives in Heterogeneity by beating any difficulty with up to six dice passives.
You can also get new dice faces for each rarity by finding different secrets andcollecting their rewards in the Gold And Gears section. Keep in mind that you can get up to 4,000 Stellar Jades if you finish everything in the Gold And Gears game mode, so it’s definitely worth your time.
