While you have plenty of all-important building to do to help your new home inMy Time at Sandrockto thrive, it’s also important to befriend the locals, too. And one of the fastest ways to earn relationship points with the NPCs around Sandrock is to challenge them to a rousing game of Critters.

A simple card game using four different animals, Critters is a relatively easy challenge. Play it once a day with most of the townsfolk, friends or more, and earn up to 15 bonus relationship points with them for the day. Here’s everything you need to know.

What Is Critters?

In My Time at Sandrock, after introducing yourself to a few of the townsfolk, you’ll begin to see the option in thedialogue choice bubblesabove their head that features apair of animals. This is the icon for Critters, asimple card gameyou can play against the townsfolk to boost your relationship by a few more points each day.

When playing Critters,you earn relationship points with that personfor each round you play.The more you win, the more points you get.

Asking someone to play brings you into a new screen withfour cards in hand. You’ll always start off withone of each of the four animalsavailable in Critters. At thebottom right cornerof your screen, you’ll also see the circular graphic that displayswhich cards beat what.

Before your first card, your opponent may attempt to psyche you out by suggesting they’ll play a certain card. This doesn’t always mean they will play it, though, so choose wisely.

Each game of Critters sees you both playingfour cards total, but you’llget one new card for each card you play, so you’ll always have four choices in hand. The same, however, goes for your opponents, making the process of elimination all but impossible.

The Townsfolk Have Their Own Tactics For Winning

The more you play Critters with the townsfolk in My Time at Sandrock, the more you’ll notice specificpatterns in how they play. These aren’t always consistent, but it always helps toknow your opponent.

For example, some will play the card you just played, while others will play what’s strong against what you’ve just played. Some try to use each animal at least once, while others seem to focus on using a specific animal as much as possible.

The best way to work these out is tochallenge your favorite residents every dayand pay attention to their style.
