Keeping everything running inWar Hospitalrequires plenty of medicine and other supplies. Your limited stocks will run out quickly, though, so it’s best to plan ahead. Knowing what you need ahead of time will save a lot of patients!

As you upgrade the hospital, you’ll gain the ability to craft and scout for resources, reducing your reliance on the small shipments that you receive from HQ. Assign your engineers and scouts with an eye toward keeping the warehouse well-stocked, and you’ll be able to save your precious Military Drafts for further upgrades, rather than spending them on keeping your head above water.

How To Get Supplies From the Train Station

The Train Station is located at the southern edge of the hospital, and usually sees six to eight trains come through over the course of a day. you may always see the train schedule for thenext 48 hoursby clicking on the building.

Cargo trains will drop offroughly 250 Freight, the raw material used for crafting and construction, each time they visit the hospital. They’ll also bringa small amount of Food Rationsand any supplies that yourequested from HQusing Military Drafts.

Personnel trains drop offpatients in need of care, pulled from the battlefields across France. Each train typically brings in eight to twelve patients, so try to be ready if one is one the way! Personnel trains also deliverany staff members you’ve hired using Staff Permits.

From the Train Station, you can order resources or personnel, provided that youhave enough warehouse room or housing, respectively, to take them. They’ll come in on the next train of the appropriate type.

As the game goes on and the war takes its toll on Europe, trains may be delayed or even canceled. If you have an important delivery coming, keep an eye on the schedule.Events like theartillery strike in Chapter Onecan even stop trains from running entirely until the problem is resolved.

How To Craft Medicine

Once you build thePharmacy, you can set engineers to work shifts there crafting medicine for your doctors to use. The basic Pharmacy can only produceSurgical Supplies, but once it’s upgraded you can produceChemical MedicinesandTrauma Medicineas well.

Each engineer can only produce one type of item at a time, but having multiple engineers work simultaneously at the same station greatly speeds up production.

All crafting rates listed in this guide are the base rates for a single working engineer at normal morale and stamina, without any cost or speed upgrades researched.

How To Craft Rations And Alcohol

The Engineering Station is the building that allows you to construct improvements to the hospital, but it can be upgraded to produce necessary supplies as well. Adding aWatermilland aDistillerylets your engineers produceFood RationsandAlcohol, respectively:

Converts 2 Freight into 0.5 Food Rations each hour

1 Draft per 20 Rations

Converts 2.7 Freight into 0.7 Alcohol each hour.

1 Draft per 10 Alcohol

Food Rations areexclusively used to feed your staffand any civilian refugees that you take in at the hospital. Each day, every staff member willvisit the Canteenat one of the three daily meal times. You can see how much time is left until the next meal, and how much food will be consumed, overlaid over the Canteen on the map.

The Canteen is located just west of the Operating Ward, attached to the Staff Housing.

If a character tries to eat and there isn’t enough food available, they’ll becomeHungry.Hungry characterrs tires quicker and work less efficiently. If a Hungry character tries to eat and there still isn’t enough food, they becomeStarving, which heightens the penalty. Characters who miss a meal while Starving die and will need to be replaced with Staff Permits, but if you reach the point where that happens you’re probably close to a game over anyway.

You can set a rationing program by visiting the Canteen.Half Rationsconsume half as much food as Normal Rations, but cause Morale to drop slightly each time a character eats.Nutritious Rationsmust be researched, but once they’re available you can give use them to giveextra Food and some Alcoholto units, resulting in a Morale boost with each meal eaten.

Alcohol is primarily used in crafting, but isfairly cheap to order from the Train Station. It’s also requested by HQ through events fairly often, sohaving a stockpile of Alcohol on handcan help you earn extra Staff Permits.

Scouting

A few days into Chapter One, a Scout unit will be placed under Major Wells' command.Build the Scout Tentand call in the Scouts from the Train Station to start deploying them. The Scout Tent and first Scout are free, but can’t be unlocked until the necessary story event.

Visiting the Scout Tent lets you send units toinvestigate points of interest around the map. These result in text-based encounters that can yield extra resources. Make sure your Scouts are working at all times!

If you can,add Dog Kennels to the Scout Tentas soon as possible. Units with dogs travel much faster over the map.

Occasionally, Scouts can die as part of their encounters. They can be replaced from the Scout Tent forone Staff Permit, and it’s a good idea to keep each unit at capacity if you can. Many event chains end with areward that scales with the number of living Scouts in the unit; the more hands to carry goods, the more will make it back to the hospital!
