God of War Ragnarok’srecently announcedfree Valhalla DLCis finally here, giving us a new roguelike mode to dive into that acts as an epilogue for Kratos' journey. While there are plenty of cool story surprises along the way, which we won’t get into here to avoid spoiling things for you, many God of War fans are reveling in the added challenge that the mode has brought with it.
In fact, it’s so tough that the DLC’s director, Mihir Sheth, has claimed that it includes an endgame challenge so difficult that nobody on the development team at Santa Monica has managed to overcome it. Sheth explained ina recent Twitter post(thanksGamesRadar) that while plenty of people managed to best the challenge on lower difficulties, the newly implemented “Show Me Mastery” difficulty mode is where devs came up against a brick wall.
Having been thoroughly bested by themselves, Sheth has now opened up this challenge to the God of War fanbase, waiting for someone with thumbs dextrous enough to beat the DLC’s toughest challenge on the hardest difficulty mode. Sheth expects to be humbled, knowing full well you can’t challenge a game’s fanbase in such a manner without expecting wild results, but is also wondering if Santa Monica has “beaten them” with this one.
Sheth doesn’t actually mention which challenge is causing all the problems, though it sounds like we’ll know which one it is when we try it by the way he’s describing it. God of War Ragnarok isn’t exactly lacking in challenging boss encounters, as everyone who’s taken down Gna, The Valkyrie Queen will be well aware of, so it’ll be interesting to see what managed to stump even the developers.
For now, most of us will probably be struggling through the main chunk of the DLC before we even start talking about endgame content. If you’re only hearing about this DLC for the first time, it’s a completely free roguelike mode that sees Kratos taking on various enemies, some from his past, and has some interesting story beats peppered between all the carnage. It’s definitely not one to skip if you enjoyed Ragnarok, and it contains a few surprises that will delight OG God of War fans.
God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla is currently available to download right now, but be aware that you need to have the base game completely installed before you try to access it. Happy hunting!
