Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthjust got a new trailer atThe Game Awards, debuting a new theme song. The Aerith-heavy trailer mainly focuses on the new theme, but also gives us a new look at areas that the sequel will explore.

As well as the main cast, the trailer shows plenty of new characters introduced for Rebirth. With Vincent, Cait Sith, Cid, and many, many more, so many favourites from the original Final Fantasy 7 will get re-introduced in Rebirth, expanding their stories just as we saw with the main crew in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. It even looks like Jessie is still around, despite many assuming she died in the first game, just as she did int he original story.

The new theme song, composed by Nobuo Uematsu, is introduced to us with Aerith singing it herself. We also see some of the other characters joining the performance, so it seems that the Gold Saucer section will be explored further than it was in the original game.

Just like we saw with Final Fantasy 7 Remake, everything is playing out very differently here. Without diving into too much detail, characters that shouldn’t be around at this pointarearound, with some seemingly given new introductions to the story.

Much like Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s DLC, Episode Intermission, Final Fantasy Rebirth is leaving last-gen platforms behind.

That said, Aerith’s grim fate seems to be alluded to at the very end, so even if the journey is a little different, the destination could wind up being the same. Indeed, it’s hard to imagine how the story would proceed withoutthatmoment since it’s so integral to the plot. Still, as these new games have proven, anything could happen, so nothing is set in stone.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to launch on Jun 18, 2025, so not too long to wait now. It will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5, but if it’s anything like its predecessor, then a PC port won’t be too far down the line.
