In 2022, Bethesda announced thatFallout 4would be getting a next-gen update at some point in the future. In the over a year since it was revealed, fans haven’t stopped asking about it. But it’s been delayed, now launching in 2024.
“Thank you for your patience with us as we work on the Fallout 4 next-gen update,” Fallout’s official Twitter account posted. “We know you’re excited, and so are we! But we need a bit more time and look forward to an exciting return to the Commonwealth in 2024.”
Skyrim got a next-gen update called the Anniversary Edition back in 2021 to celebrate ten years of jumping up mountains and refusing to kill Paarthurnax.
For the most part, people are fine waiting a little bit longer before returning to the hunt for Shaun. Others, however, are skeptical amidstSkyrim’s new Creations update, which many argue is bringing back paid mods. Essentially, the Creation Club has been replaced with a new menu that lists community-created add-ons which you can buy for real money. Worries are bubbling that the same overhaul will come to Fallout 4 with the next-gen update.
However, there’s another side to that coin. Skyrim’s Anniversary Edition came with all of the Creation Club add-ons included, and many are hoping that Fallout 4’s update will do the same. Maybe it’ll even add radioactive fishing, eh?
We don’t know much about Fallout 4’s next-gen update. Bethesda has been quiet on the subject since it was announced, focusing onStarfield’slaunch which was earlier this year. But with that out of the gate and a Fallout TV show underway, things are heating up for the Commonwealth.
It’ll likely include a higher frame rate option and new performance and quality modes. What else will change, if anything, we don’t know. Whether there will be any new content or updated graphics and lighting remains a mystery, but going by the several Skyrim re-releases and the delay, it’s safe to assume there’s more than just 60fps underway.
In the meantime, we have Amazon Prime’s Fallout series to look forward to, which just gotits very first trailer earlier this month. It premiers next year on June 26, 2025. The question is, will Fallout 4’s next-gen update be here by then?
