For almost as long as the Pokemon series has existed, Fly has been a move your Pokemon can learn. And for almost as long as that, Fly has been an HM that allows you to use certain Pokemon for fast travel to previously visited areas.

InScarlet and Violet, flying takes the form of gliding, one of the final traversal abilities unlocked by your partner Pokemon, Miraidon or Koraidon. In the Indigo Disk DLC, however, the ability for them to truly fly becomes available, and it’s not even that arduous a process.

How To Unlock Flying

After first starting the Indigo Disk DLC and arriving in Blueberry Academy, you will be introduced to the BB League, the academy’s own homegrown version of the Pokemon League, Elite Four and all. Each of them has youundertake a trialbefore you may challenge them. In this instance,we’ll be focusing on Amarys.

During Amarys Elite Trial, which is found in the Canyon Biome, she will feed your partner Pokemon a special treat that willallow them to fly freely, though this only lasts for the extent of the trial.

However, you may acquire the ability to fly permanently after completing the main storyof the Indigo Disk. Afterwards, simply visit Amarys in Blueberry Academy(her location will be highlighted) and she will feed your partner Pokemon once again, giving them permanent flight capabilities.

How To Fly

After your partner Pokemon acquires the ability to fly, it becomes a toggle, rather than replacing the default gliding. After jumping and beginning a glide, simply press the left stick and your partner Pokemon will begin to fly.

The default controls for flight are inverted, which might not be to most people’s satisfaction. You can thankfully invert it from the options menu, no additional NPCs required.

Unlike gliding, which tapers off after a short while, you can fly as far and for as long as you want. Even better, flight isn’t restricted to the Terrarium either. You can use it both in Paldea and Kitakami as well.

Use it to reach all of those high-up locations the developers never accounted for you being able to reach!
