While it might be a gacha game,Genshin Impactstill has one of the best stories you can find within a game. It starts off with two Travelers who enter Teyvat’s atmosphere and instantly get interrupted by an unknown god. This god then steals one of the Travelers, leaving the other as the main character that you get to control.
As time passes and you visit various nations, you learn the secrets behind Teyvat’s existence, which are quite difficult to digest. One of these secrets comes in the form of Descenders, and here’s everything you need to know about them.

Nahida’s Account
You won’t get to hear anything about the Descenders during the early stages of the main story. The first mention comes at the end of Chapter III Act V, where Nahida recounts that shemade an exchange of knowledge with Dottore where she had to give him the Gnosesin her possession.
Apart from telling her that the sky is fake, Dottore also mentioned that the Traveler is the fourth Descender in Teyvat, but their sibling isn’t a Descender and has a record in Irminsul. This comes as shocking news because the Traveler has journeyed the cosmos with their sibling for as long as they can remember.

Based on this hypothesis, Nahida also mentions that the Heavenly Principles are likely the first Descenders in Teyvat, but she doesn’t know anything about the second and third Descenders.
Neuvillette’s Account
The next mention of the Descenders comes at the end of the very next chapter, the Fontaine arc. After going through everything and witnessing the Fontainians' sin being forgiven,Neuvillette recounts his conversation with Skirk back in the domainwhere you fought and defeated the All-Devouring Narwhal.
Here, she mentioned that all theGnoses are made from the remains of the Third Descender. This is shocking news since it directly mentions that the Third Descender, one of the only two Descenders between the Heavenly Principles and the Traveler, is already dead.

Skirk also mentions that it’s acurse to possess the Gnosesand it can bring destruction to whoever has it.
