Yesterday’sXboxDeveloper Direct gave us our best look yet at Obsidian’sAvowed, but it was the cover art that was shown at the end of the segment that really blew everyone away.
After a year that most Xbox fans would admit was a little disappointing, it already looks like 2024 is going to be a much more exciting time for everyone. Last night’s Xbox Developer Direct made this very clear by showing off a ton of exciting projects, includingIndiana Jones and the Great Circle,Hellblade 2: Senua’s Sacrifice (which finally got a release date),Ara: History Untold, and, of course, Avowed.
It was a great showcase for Obsidian’s upcoming RPG,one that not only gave us our best look yet at its combat and RPG mechanics but also shared a release window of Fall 2024. As great as all that was, though, the real highlight of the Avowed section of the night was something that no one was expecting to care all that much about - its key art.
Right after Avowed was shown off, the Xbox Developer Direct took a second toshow off the main piece of art for the game that’ll likely also be used for its box art as well. This usually isn’t all that noteworthy, but Avowed’s cover art is absolutely stunning and one of the best bits of artwork I’ve seen for a game in quite some time, which really isn’t something I expected.
It’s not just me admiring the artwork, either.A quick search on Twitter shows that the thing everyone is talking about when it comes to Avowedis its gorgeous cover art, with a few already eyeing it up as a potential tattooandothers begging for a dynamic theme on Xbox. The Avowed subreddit, which you’d expect to be focused on the new gameplay, is also mainly just talking about cover art and how great it is.
The official PC Games Pass Twitter account even joined in on the praise, tweeting out, “NEW DESKTOP BACKGROUND JUST DROPPED”.
What makes this even interesting is that a lot ofXbox fans had a big issue with how Avowed looked when it was shown off last year, calling it out as having seen a big downgrade from its clearly CG reveal trailer. Now, though, everyone is marvelling at how great a piece of art from the game looks, which should hopefully apply to Avowed when it actually releases.
