You can also achieve a special variation of this ending with the illithid ending.

Become The Absolute

During the finale of the fight, you gain all threeNetherstonesto allow you to dominate the Elder Brain. While you may let the Mindflayer you’re allied with handle it, you have the option to betray them at the last minute.

If you betray them,Gale will kill them and take the Netherstones to dominate the Elder Brain himself. He will sit upon the throne of the Absolute and take the title for himself.

Illithid Ending

At the very end of Act Three, someone in your party will have to become a Mindflayerif you do not work with theEmperor. You can have Gale become one if you are playing as him.

As a Mindflayer, the ending plays out the same - going to the Elder Brain, dominating it, and destroying it. If you worked against the Emperor, you would have to kill him, too.

Gale will stay a Mindflayer when he meets with Mystra. If Gale surrenders the crown to her as an Illithid, shewill offer to return Gale’s soul and humanity to him if he returns to Elysium with her.

If Gale does not agree to return with Mystra, hewill return back to the land as an Illithid permanently.

Illithid Gale has the option to attempt to rise to Godhood but will be struck down, just like if Gale remains human.

Dies And Explodes

If Gale is in your party and ever dies in combat, anastral projection of himselfwill appear and tell you it is of great importance thathe be revived within two days. However, if you take three long rests without reviving Gale, his corpse will rise into the air as theNetherese orb inside his chest detonateswithout Gale alive to control it. This will immediately cause a game over asGale’s body destroys both Gale himself and everything around him- including your party.
