15Ellie - Ashley Johnson
Ashley Johnson returns to voice a more gritty Ellie in the sequel, overcome with PTSD and filled with rage as she goes on a journey hunting down WLF militia out of revenge. Ellie becomes the main playable protagonist in Part 2, and this new side of her is very gripping and emotional to explore.
In The Last of Us HBO series, Johnson cameoed as Ellie’s mother, Anna, in the finale. She’s also known for the web series Critical Role and her role as Patterson in NBC’s Blindspot. Other notable voiced characters of Ashley’s include Ben 10’s Gwen Tennyson,Calliope in Stray Gods, Pike in The Legend of Vox Machina, and Petra inMinecraft: Story Mode.
14Abby - Laura Bailey
The twist with The Last of Us Part 2’s story is that you get to see how trauma affects both sides. Abby Anderson also suffered a major loss and went the ‘eye for an eye’ route and is now paying for her actions with Ellie’s hellbent carnage on her squad. Since Abby is the second playable protagonist in The Last of Us Part 2, you’ll also be able to see the events from her point of view.
Voicing Abby is actress Laura Bailey, who’s no stranger to working with PlayStation Studios. Some of her iconic roles include MJ Watson inMarvel’s Spider-Man 1 and 2, Nadine Ross inUncharted 4 and Lost Legacy, Fetch in InFamous: Second Son and First Light, Fiona inTales from the Borderlands, Kate Diaz inGears 5, and Jaina Proudmoore inWorld of Warcraft. She alsocameoed as a nurse in Ellie’s procedure in HBO’s The Last of Us.
13Joel - Troy Baker
Whether you respect his decision or not, Joel is a complicated protagonist, sacrificing a potential end to the Cordyceps for the love that grew for his adoptive daughter, Ellie. It’s a decision that comes back to haunt him in the early part of the game and serves as the story’s inciting action. Veteran voice actor Troy Baker reprises the conflicted Joel Miller in the sequel.

12Tommy - Jeffrey Pierce
With the sequel set in Jackson, you’ll be seeing much more of the community and Joel’s brother, Tommy, who becomes an important character for joining Ellie in her vengeful crusade and going down the path that he’s on. Tommy is also reprised by voice actor Jeffrey Pierce, who guest-starred as Kathleen’s villainous FEDRA operative named Perry in the live-action series.
Pierce has played many roles across video games, films, and television. He previously voiced Jason Bourne in The Bourne Conspiracy video game and portrayedCall of Dutycharacters like WWII’s Lt. Joseph Turner, Ghosts' Thomas A. Merrick, and Infinite Warfare’s Havoc. You might also recall him as the antagonist Trevor Dobbs in Bosch’s third season, a young Sheriff Alan Pangborn in Hulu’s Castle Rock, and Jack Jameson in The Tomorrow People.
11Dina - Shannon Woodward
Dina is Ellie’s girlfriend and a pivotal force in this stage of Ellie’s life, providing her with love and comfort at a time when she needs it most, as well as risking her life and leaving Jackson to go on this journey with Ellie. Bringing Dina to life in this Bafta award-nominated performance is Westworld actress Shannon Woodward, who played park programmer Elsie Hughes in the series.
Before appearing in Westworld, Woodward starred in the sitcom Raising Hope as the main character Sabrina and Di Di Malloy in FX’s The Riches. She’s also guest-starred on shows such as Mr. Corman, The Morning Show, and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off and voices for a podcast series based on The Division games called The Division: Hearts on Fire.
10Jesse - Stephen A. Chang
As much as The Last of Us Part 2 presents a grim and complex tale of revenge and trauma, there’s also a bit of a love triangle going on, and that’s all due to a character named Jesse. Jesse is Dina’s ex-boyfriend who later finds her and Ellie in Seattle, where some dramatic twists arise. Voicing Jesse is actor Stephen A. Chang in his first video game role!
If you’ve watched Freevee’s sequel series Bosch: Legacy, you’ll recognize Stephen A. Chang as the actor behind Mo Bassi, the jazz-loving hacker enthusiast helping Titus Welliver’s Harry with some PI work. He’s also voiced Sebastian Wu in the interactive series Artificial: Factions and appeared in minor guest roles on shows like Shameless, Victorious, and Hawaii Five-0.
9Owen - Patrick Fugit
Owen is Abby’s ex-boyfriend and now best friend helping her on her quest for revenge and who’s currently involved with their WLF teammate Mel. Through flashbacks, you find out Owen was part of the Fireflies in the Salt Lake City hospital before Joel killed their leadership.
Patrick Fugit is the voice behind the character who supports and grounds Abby throughout much of her journey. Fugit’s first major film role was William Miller in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous. He’s since been in the films Dead Birds, First Man, We Bought a Zoo, and Babylon, and played Candy Montgomery’s husband, Pat Montgomery, in the HBO miniseries Love & Death.
8Jerry Anderson - Derek Phillips
That Firefly doctor who operated on Ellie andwho Joel killed in an act to save her. Well, he’s got a name, family, and backstory. Dr. Jerry Anderson is the father of Abby Anderson, so that kind of gives you a sense of where the revenge themes will come into play. In Abby’s flashbacks of her father, Derek Phillips voices the late doctor.
Derek Phillips has given his voice to notable video game characters such as photography teacher Mark Jefferson inLife is Strange, Wade Jackson in Call of Duty: Vanguard, Lord Treavor Pendleton inDishonored, and Reiko inMortal Kombat 1. In live-action, you can catch him in Netflix’s Longmire, Prime Video’s Them, Shooter, and Friday Night Lights.
7Isaac - Jeffrey Wright
Another Westworld star who joins the cast of The Last of Us Part 2 is Jeffrey Wright, or Ford’s right-hand Bernard Lowe, who worked alongside Shannon Woodward’s character Elsie Hughes. Jeffrey returns for another antagonistic role in The Last of Us Part 2 as the leader of the WLF militia, Isaac Dixon.
Jeffrey Wrighthas been in many acclaimed Hollywood films and blockbusters, playing Felix Leiter in Daniel Craig’s Bond movies, Jim Gordon in Matt Reeve’s The Batman, Roebuck Wright and General Gibson in Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch and Asteroid City, and Beetee in The Hunger Games films. He also voices The Watcher in the MCU animated show What If…?
6Lev And Yara - Ian Alexander And Victoria Grace
Lev and Yara are a sibling duo who escape the religious antagonistic cult called the Seraphites, which are the enemies in both Ellie’s and Abby’s playthroughs. Lev and Yara come into Abby’s care during her present-day story, and you see how their relationships evolve through harrowing survival.
What’s notable about Lev’s character is that hebrings trans representation to a huge PlayStation series like The Last of Usand is voiced and modeled after Ian Alexander, a transgender male. Before Lev in Part 2, Ian was Buck Vu in Netflix’s The OA, and he’s since gone on to star as Gray Tal in Star Trek: Discovery and Brother in the 2022 horror film Daughter.
Lev’s sister Yara is voiced by actress Victoria Grace, who plays Wendy Shin in the soap opera Days of Our Lives and is the English dub voice for many characters across Netflix’s Korean series like All of Us Are Dead, Single’s Inferno, Alchemy of Souls, and Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area. You may have also seen her guest appearances in the sitcoms Modern Family and Superstore.
