Most video game series don’t have a huge connection between its voice actors and the overall fanbase.Grand Theft Auto 5is one title that definitely does, as many of the voice actors truly love their work in this game and the fans.
Certain actors are iconic and most well-known for their roles here. Some of the voice actors are familiar faces, others have neat connections, and others are a bit unknown. All of them do a great job at voicing their characters throughout both GTA 5 andGTA Online.
The main characters listed here are the ones that have the most screentime in the story rather than the most important ones overall.
10Shawn Fonteno - Franklin Clinton
Employee Of The Month
Out ofthe three lead protagonists in GTA 5, Franklin is the one you’re meant to connect with most. He’s the youngest, doesn’t have a lot of backstory baggage like the other two, and also gets the trademark rise from the bottom to the top story. He’s voiced by Shawn Fonteno, and it’s hard to imagine any other person voicing him.
Fonteno actually has quite a few fascinating connections. First, he was an actual former gang member and happens to be the cousin of thevoice actor who plays CJinGTA: San Andreas. That’s already wild, but he also appeared in the Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg comedy movie The Wash. That might explain why Dr. Dre is all over GTA 5/Online, especially in The Contract add-on.
9Ned Luke - Michael De Santa
The Family Man
After playing as Franklin, your second character is Michael De Santa. He serves as a mentor figure to Franklin and as a way for Rockstar to explore the American Dream theme. Michael has a big family dynamic with a daughter, son, and wife. Hijinks to follow.
Ned Luke voices the character, and he perfectly nails the toughened, older, run-over career criminal. Most of his work consists of TV shows, including General Hospital, Boardwalk Empire, and Law & Order. He also voiced one of the primary characters in the 1991 animated film Rover Dangerfield, although that probably won’t ring any bells to anyone under 30.
8Steven Ogg - Trevor Philips
The Loose Cannon
Trevor rounds out the trio of protagonists. An incredibly violent individual, Trevor is the one meant to go on GTA-style rampages. With high skills coming from his military background, you don’t want to be on his bad side. Steven Ogg voices Trevor and does a great job portraying the character’s complex personality.
Sometimes, he’s witty and funny, but can also turn 180 degrees at a moment’s notice. Ogg delivers the latter, in particular, excellently. Steven Ogg has done quite a bit of TV work, including acting in Better Call Saul, Westworld, and The Walking Dead. He’s also Canadian, just like Trevor himself.
7Slink Johnson - Lamar Davis
Franklin’s Partner In Crime
Each lead character has some buddies that’ll typically go with you during missions. The big one for Franklin is Lamar Davis. The chemistry between the two is amazing, and it’s so fun to see their banter. Of course, who could forget Lamar’sroast on Franklin, which became an internet meme? Even a second roast happened in The Contract GTA Online add-on.
Lamar is voiced by Gerald ‘Slink’ Johnson and plays his part beautifully. Without him, that chemistry between Lamar and Franklin just wouldn’t be there. Slink has done plenty of work for TV and film, but his biggest part besides Lamar has to be the starring role in the Adult Swim sitcom Black Jesus.
6Vicki Van Tassel - Amanda De Santa
The Mob Wife
Out of all of Michael’s family members, Amanda has the least to do in the story. She’s the satirical wife of American culture with a big plot point concerning an affair with a tennis coach. She’s a cheater, and that’s even highlighted on the in-game Ashley Madison-style website you can find.
Amanda is voiced by Vicki Van Tassel, who has a very small number of acting credits. Besides GTA 5, the only other thing listed on her IMDb is a 2010 David Scotland music video. To be fair, Tassel does a lot of things, as she’s also a singer, dancer, and comedian.
5Danny Tamberelli - Jimmy De Santa
The Gamer Son
Following in line with the satirical family, Jimmy is the overweight son who plays video games all day. There’s even a bit that states he gets viruses from the adult content he watches, which is weird considering that, unless you’re Martin Shkreli, you probably don’t install said explicit material.
He’s voiced by Danny Tamberelli, who’s probably the most familiar face in the cast. He was in The Mighty Ducks, but also in a few ’90s Nickelodeon shows. This includes the classic sitcom Pete & Pete, as Little Pete, and the iconic All That as a lead cast member.
4Michal Sinnott - Tracey De Santa
Daddy’s Little Girl
Tracey De Santa is the satirical daughter who grows up too darn fast. Whether it’s meeting with adult film producers on a yacht or being on Fame or Shame, Michael will not allow it. She’s voiced by Michal Sinnott, who nails the stereotypical nature of the character.
Sinnott’s been in many acting roles, including Law & Order: Criminal Intent and the 2014 horror film HorrorCon. Unlike most of the cast, she’s a writer/director as well, as shown by her 2022 film Unpacking, which won plenty of awards at nearly every film festival it was shown at.
3Jay Klaitz - Lester Crest
The Heist Pro
If you combine both GTA 5 and GTA Online’s stories, Lester Crest would be thebiggest supporting character. Playing a big part in almost all the heists in GTA 5/Online, Lester will be the main voice you’re listening to while planning these out.
Lester’s design is great, and he’s actually one of the most important people in the game. He’s voiced by Jay Klaitz, who’s done a lot of acting roles, but his biggest one is in the MCU show Jessica Jones. There, he plays Whizzer, a character originally from the comics, if you can believe it.
2Matthew Maher - Wade Hebert
They Put A Juggalo In The Game?
While Ron Jakowski’s also one of Trevor’s biggest friends, he is absent for most of the second half of GTA 5’s story. As such, Wade Hebert gets the most screen time. Wade’s the complete opposite of Trevor. He’s largely innocent, for the most part, and simply goes along with Trevor’s ridiculous plans.
This makes for a great contrast between the two personalities. Matthew Maher is the one to voice Wade. Maher also appeared in the MCU, this time in Captain Marvel, portraying Norex. He was also a voice in the incredibly underrated Clerks Animated Series.
1Jonathan Walker - Devin Weston
The Big Baddy
you’re able to’t have aGTA game without a villain, and GTA 5 smashes it hard with Devin Weston. A detestable villain who gets an incredibly satisfying ending, Rockstar could not have nailed the character better.
Devin is voiced by Jonathan Walker, who makes him such a good bad guy that you feel no sympathy for. Once again, Walker showed up in the MCU playing a Senator in Daredevil. With these MCU TV shows, it’s getting easier to appear in the iconic and epic Marvel universe.
