Summary
Released on Halloween 2023by indie developerAstralShift, Little Goody Two Shoes isa delightful RPG Maker-esque gamethat feels like it was plucked straight from a fairy tale. You play as Elise, an orphaned girl who finds her life changed forever as she wanders into the forest outside her village in the hopes of granting her deepest wish.
Unfortunately, Elise’s wish is more selfish than you’d imagine with that premise. Most of the endings to this game have things going horribly forsomeone, and all of them have twists and turns you’d probably never expect. Here are all the endings, from our least to most favorite.
10Auto-Da-Fé
What A Disappointment
This one is just anticlimactic. You need to romance either Freya or Lebkuchen to achieve this ending but fail to obtain a token of her affection as needed for the “Good Company” testament. Instead of betraying your girlfriend by sacrificing her to a demon, you’rethe one who ends up being sold out.
It turns out your girlfriend grew suspicious of your behavior and alerted the townsfolk. Elise ends up being confronted by an angry mob, who accuse her of witchcraft and burn her at the stake. Sure, your girlfriend tries to talk them out of it, but this just hurts. You’ve spent the whole game tryingnotto get accused of witchcraft, only to trip at the finish line.
9Treacherous Rose
With Friends Like These
There are three variations of the “standard” ending for Little Goody Two Shoes, based onwhich girl you choose to romance. The first is Treacherous Rose, the ending you get if you obtain all three testaments to your loyalty to the Strange Boy. You’ll need to romance Freya to achieve this ending.
You’ll be ‘rewarded’ after Elise unwittingly sacrifices her girlfriend to a demon, sending Freya to her doom. To achieve Elise’s wish for a life of luxury, the Strange Boy arranges for her loveless marriage to a nobleman. This also guarantees that he’ll get to steal Elise’s daughter from her as well. Years later, a heartbroken Elise visits Freya’s grave, consumed with regret. Sweet dreams!
8Judas' Kiss
The Ultimate Betrayal
Judas' Kiss has similar plot beats to Treacherous Rose, but with a few twists that make it somewhat more interesting in the narrative sense. To achieve it, you’ll need to romance Lebkuchen. The pious maiden will curse Elise for choosing to consort with demons and sacrifice her to a horrible fate.
Just as with Treacherous Rose, Elise loses her daughter and lives a life full of regret after what she’s done. Without anywhere else to turn to, she takes refuge in a monastery, knowing that the powers that be will not judge her kindly for her misdeeds. However, just before Elise dies, she sees a vision of Lebkuchen, who has forgiven her from beyond the grave. It doesn’t help what’s already been done, but it’s nice seeing Elise see the woman she loves again.
7Apostasy
Great Potential, Not So Great Execution
Spend all your time trying to solve the mystery of the events unfolding in Kieferberg, and you’ll reach this ending. Elise finds out that Father Hans has been setting up horrific rituals throughout the area in an attempt to summon Walpurga. Hans confronts Elise, saying that he’s willing to kill her to preserve his vision.
Unfortunately, he’s killed by Walpurga herself, who then proceeds to possess Elise’s body to live out life as a mortal. This ending could have been great, but it was unfortunately hampered by its execution. We see a lot of talking and spend a lot of time reading journals but don’t ever see much action or environmental storytelling. What’s more, we never see what Walpurga does after she possesses Elise.
6Moira
Doomed By Canon
Moira is the third variation of the “standard” ending, which you get by romancing Rozenmarine and handing over all three testaments to the Strange Boy. However, it has major variations from the first two endings. This makes a bit more sense when you realize that Little Goody Two Shoes is a prequel to AstralShift’s other RPG horror game, Pocket Mirror.
Just as with the other two endings, Elise sacrifices Rozenmarine to the Strange Boy and ends up in a loveless marriage with a life full of regrets because of it. Unlike the other two, there’s a ray of hope: while Lebkuchen knows what Elise has done and is disgusted by it, she doesn’t see why Elise’s daughter should suffer. She gives Elise a mirror imbued with magical protection, kicking off the events of Pocket Mirror.
5Bells Of Dawn
Aspiring To Greater Heights
Like with the standard endings, there are three variations of each “good” ending in Little Goody Two Shoes. These all trigger if you refuse to sacrifice your romantic interest after collecting all three testaments. Lebkuchen takes it particularly hard if you sacrifice her, making her good ending all the sweeter.
Elise and Lebkuchen spend their days traveling together, feeling liberated once they leave the stifling atmosphere of their old town. However, their decision to come back and take their place as the mayors of the town is more than a little baffling. Perhaps some more development during the game would make this less jarring, but it is what it is.
4Grape Jewel
A Cozy Romance For The Ages
Collect all three testaments while romancing Freya, but refuse to sacrifice your girlfriend to the Strange Boy’s machinations. You’ll unlock the Grape Jewel ending, which will start off with Elise and Freya enjoying the festival together. Elise gives up on her dreams of luxury and wealth, realizing that love is a far greater treasure.
From there, Elise and Freya slowly build a life together, saving up enough money to buy a dress shop in another town. Satisfied that her hard work has finally amounted tosomething, Elise finds joy in helping her partner be the best seamstress she can be. It’s not the most glamorous life, but it’s one that stays true to both characters.
3Star-Crossed
Screw Destiny!
Like Grape Jewel and Bells of Dawn, Star-Crossed is earned by refusing to sacrifice your girlfriend during the final hour. Throughout the entire game, Rozenmarine believes that her fate is predestined, and any attempt to stray from that path is futile. If you romance her, you have the potential to make her reconsider that worldview.
This ending is particularly sweet when you recall that Rozenmarine’s bad ending is canon. Star-Crossed isn’t just another good ending in that respect. It’s also a glimpse of what could have been had Elise not fallen to her own hubris. Although Elise and Rozenmarine have to spend some time apart to find themselves, they still realize they belong together in the end.
2The Kiss
A Cruel Twist Of Fate
It’s impossible to overstate just how delightfully messed up this ending is. You need to romance Rozenmarine for this ending to trigger but fail to obtain the Good Company testament. Rozenmarine will thank Elise for bringing her to Walpurga’s tree, proclaiming it to be destiny. Itjust gets much worsefor Elise from there.
Unlike Auto-Da-Fé, which was underwhelming, The Kiss doesnotfail to disappoint. Rozenmarine allows herself and Elise to be fused together in Walpurga’s tree, laughing as they embrace. They’ll be together forever, even if that wish was carried out in the most horrifying and grotesque way imaginable.
1Motherly Cocoon
The Most Disturbing Ending
This is one of the most narratively satisfying bad ends we’ve seen. Fail to procure either the Tender Flesh or the Sweetest Nectar and visit Walpurga’s tree on the night of the festival, and you’ll trigger an ending that willleave you both horrifiedand wanting more.
As with the Apostasy ending, Walpurga possesses Elise’s body. However, we get to actually see the extent of Walpurga’s evil this time, as well as scenes from her life in Elise’s body. We’re also treated to more exposition on Walpurga’s motives, making this the most satisfying non-canon ending.
