When you first take over the old Workshop inMy Time at Sandrock, the facilities Mason left you arelacking, to put it kindly. You begin with very basic machinery, but in order to help build Sandrock into the desert gem it’s destined to be, you’ll need some better gear.
Thankfully, Qi over at the Research Center can take the Data Discs you’ve been finding in the Abandoned Ruins and do some digging of his own. Give him just a few days with the Discs, and you’ll be upgrading your Workshop machines in My Time at Sandrock in no time!

Use Data Discs To Unlock New Workshop Machine Blueprints
Collect Data Discs In The Mines
While you may find the Research Center early on in your new life in Sandrock, you won’t be able to begin using it yourself until you’ve gotten your hands on someData Discs.
These are primarily found whilemining, meaning you’ll need to havecompleted Rocky’s craneand gainedaccess to the abandoned ruinsover in Eufala Salvage.

you’re able to also buy Data Discs from the Eufala Salvage Shop for roughly 25 Gols a piece, but you’ll find them enough with consistent mining that you won’t typically need to buy any surpluss.
Qi tells you that he’llresearch new machinery for your workshopin exchange for a set number of these discs per project you give him.

Once you have some, you may eitherask Qi directlyabout research or simplyuse the machine in Qi’s labto begin the process yourself.
Each upgrade requires aprogressively larger number of discsto complete, and each new blueprint you ask Qi to check out for you will takeat least one day, if not more, to complete.
You canspeed up the research processin exchange for even more data discs, should you be in a rush.
Once a new machine is ready to go,Qi sends the blueprint to you in the mail when the work is finishedresearching it.
Be sure youaccept the recipe from the letter, and you’ll immediately have access to that blueprint for the remainder of the game - it won’t automatically log just because you read Qi’s letter.
Research Into New Machines Builds On Itself
When you begin asking Qi to research for you in My Time at Sandrock, you’ll notice thatnot all research options are available right away.
This is because you’ll need toresearch an earlier version of this machinebefore you’re able to advance that prototype. Earlier versions of machines tend to cost fewer data discs, and they’re critical to progressing through Qi’s research catalog.
Once a machine has been researched, the row directly below it will unlock, allowing you to create either spin-offs of that machine or a more advanced, greener version of it.
Lower rows of research cost vastly more data discs, requiring quite a lot of mining before you’ve filled out your catalog.Save your data discsuntil you can afford these prices.
