Death Stranding 2’s sub-title has officially been confirmed asOn The Beachin what has to be one of the weirdest gaming trailers of all time, with robot baby samurai, talking puppets, electric guitar weapons, and a whole lot more.
If there was one game that we were all expecting to be at tonight’s PlayStation State of Play, it was without a doubt Death Stranding 2. Recent rumours suggested that the game’s full title would be Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, and then Kojima started hyping the presentation up, making it clear we were in for another look at Sam Porter Bridges' walking adventures.
First things first -Death Stranding 2 is still a walking simulator where you play as Sam Porter Bridges, just like the first game. We hadn’t actually seen any gameplay footage in the initial reveal trailer, which mostly focused on Fragile and Lou, so it was nice to see that confirmed. Of course, it’s notreallyjust walking, but that’s the main hook.
Outside of seeing tons of new terrain and environments that we’re going to have to struggle to get over, the highlight of Death Stranding 2’s trailer was just how bloody weird it was. The first game is no stranger to, well, strangeness, but this is a whole new level with talking puppets that are animated almost like stop-motion, robot baby samurai, electric guitar battles, timey-wimey shenanigans, floating whales and a whole lot more.
Oh, and George Miller is in the game for some reason, with a cat made out of tar. Sure, why not?
While On The Beach being weird is something to celebrate if you were a fan of the last game like myself, but what was a little bit more disappointing was seeing the release window of 2025. Rumours have previously hinted at Death Stranding 2 possibly making it into 2024, but it looks like we’re going to be waiting a little while longer to see the next step of the journey.
We’ve known about Death Stranding 2 for quite some time now, with it originally being leaked some time ago by Norman Reedus, the actor behind Sam Porter Bridges, who revealed it was a thing long before it was announced. Since then, rumours have suggested that it’s titled Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, something that was confirmed at the State of Play.
