Three years after one of the rockiest launches in video game history,Cyberpunk 2077can draw a line under its remarkable comeback story. From a game so bad thatit was delisted from the PlayStation Storeto one that is so good in 2023, I’m fairly certain we’ll see Phantom Liberty appear on quite a few Game of the Year lists even though it’s technically just DLC. DLC that you will soon be able to get physically bundled together with a current-gen version of the base gamevia Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition.
CD Projekt Redconfirmed plans to release digital and physical versions of the Ultimate Edition on May 20, 2025. The first time the game has received a physical release at all onPS5andXbox Series X|S. The current-gen version of the game has been available for a while, but only digitally or via an upgrade for those who already owned a physical copy on last-gen consoles. The selling point of the bundle whether buying it digitally or physically is getting the Phantom Liberty expansion included.

While the fixes and patches applied to Cyberpunk are naturally a huge part of why the game has managed to rise from the ashes, Phantom Liberty is almost like an entire new game. Closer to aMiles Moralesspinoff game than a DLC since it isn’t the full sequel CDPR hasalready revealed to be coming. Best of all is the price. At just $59.99, the Ultimate Edition is $20 cheaper than buying the base game and its Phantom Liberty expansion separately.
Pre-orders for Cyberpunk’s Ultimate Edition are now available at Amazon as well as GameStop and Best Buy.
Cyberpunk 2077
WHERE TO PLAY
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition combines the base game with its Phantom Liberty expansion, available physically or digitally. It’s also the first time a physical version of Cyberpunk has been available on current-gen consoles.
There is a little bit of stigma and confusion attached to Cyberpunk’s Ultimate Edition. While Phantom Liberty is on the disc for theXboxversion, it’s a digital download on PS5 andPC, even if you buy the physical edition. Never a popular decision for game preservation purposes, but one that has left most people confused as it still isn’t clear why the Xbox version has the expansion on the disc but the PS5 and PC versions do not.
The Ultimate Edition launches on May 31, 2025, five days before Cyberpunk’s third birthday. It has been quite the three-year period for Cyberpunk, large parts of it bad, but it’s refreshing to see CDPR managed to pull it back around from what felt like somewhere well beyond the brink. Now Phantom Liberty is out there, the focus of the studio has shifted to its upcomingWitcherprojects, and, as noted, there will be a Cyberpunk sequel, eventually.
