Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel, codenamed Project Orion, could be set in Chicago. That’s the latest fan theory at least, as players think they’ve found a clue about the next game tucked away in Night City.
At various locations around the map, players are finding a poster that advertises quick travel between Night City and Chicago. The new infrastructure that allows this is listed as opening in 2080, so perhaps this will be the year the new game is set in.
The poster has been spotted several times over the past year, with many seeing it for the first time in early 2023. While some fans claim to have seen the poster floating around since launch, an increasing amount of players are saying they’ve just found it recently, with some saying that they’ve been seeing it even more since the latest update.
Booting up my save, I managed to find one fairly easily in Japantown. I’ve been playing since launch, and this is the first time I’ve noticed the poster. Admittedly, there are a lot of ads in Night City, so I may have just missed it all of this time. But that would mean that a whole lot of us have missed it until now, so maybe it really is being shown more frequently.
Right now, we don’t know for sure where the next Cyberpunk game will take us, but we do know that it’s in the very early stages of production over atCD Projekt Red. Since this means that it’s crossed over with all of the support that Cyberpunk 2077 has received, it wouldn’t be totally surprising to see the devs sneak a clue in there, if they’ve settled on details like the setting and the year that the next game will be set in.
Alongside many other titles, CD Projekt Red is also working onThe Witcher 4. Since The Witcher series hasn’t had an entry since 2015, we can expect this to be prioritised.
Aside from that, we know that the sequel is beinginternally referred to as Project Orion. We first learned of its existence in 2022, but since then, we’ve heard very little. It has been said that it will enter development properly this year, which would make sense, now thatPhantom Libertyis out of the way. We’ve also been told that wewon’t receive any more major updates to Cyberpunk 2077, so no new features are planned. This makes sense if CDPR is shifting its focus to the future of the series.
