With the sheer number of dinosaurs you’ll see inArk: Survival Ascended, it can be quite difficult to choose the one you want to tame. With the lack of resources during the early game, Pteranodon becomes one of the best choices since it can help you in many ways by letting you sit on its back while it flies.

Pteranodons are a common site as long as you’re in the correct area. Once you tame one for yourself, you’re able to use it to fly around the map and discover all the points of interest. They can also be used to carry a few resources for long distances.

How To Tame Pteranodon

If you want to tame a Pteranodon, you’ll first have to get your Bola and Club ready. The former will be used to keep it on the ground while the latter can be used to put it to sleep. Once you’ve located a Pteranodon and have the resources, you’ll first have to wait for it to land if it’s flying around.

These dinosaurs have quite low stamina,so you’ll find them landing and walking around quite often. They’re not scared of humans so you can easily walk up to the landed Pteranodon and use your Bola on it. As soon as it’s stuck on the ground, start hacking at it with your Club until it becomes unconscious.

It’s recommended to use Clubs to knock them out if they’re low-level, butyou’ll have to use Tranq arrows for higher levels.

This is because the low-level Pteranodons have very little HP, and you caneasily kill them with the arrows before you knock them out.

Once the bird is knocked out, access its inventory and place the best meat-related item you have. Kibble is the best food for a perfect tamebut you’re able to also get decent effectiveness with Mutton and Prime Meat. However, since it’s an early game bird, you’ll most likely have to use normal Raw Meat.

You’ll see the bird eating your meat and progressing the tame bar slowly. If you’re trying to tame a high-level Pteranodon, it’srecommended to put a few spikes around it to protect it from Carnivores. You can name the bird and ride it using the Pteranodon saddle once its tame bar is full.

Pteranodons are great for the early-game, but you’d want to use them tofind better birds like Argentavis for the late game.

Where To Find Pteranodon

While Pteranodons are one of the most common flying dinosaurs in the game, you still won’t be able to find them everywhere. If you want to look for a Pteranodon, yourbest bet is to move beside the coastline or other water bodies. These birds are usually seen landing near water.

It’s common to find them in groups of two or more, and you can use a Spyglass to check their level from far away. Of course, you can alwaysuse the console command to wipe dinos on the serverif you can’t find high-level Pteranodons so that new ones can respawn.
