Wingspan: Asia is currently my favorite of all the Wingspan expansions, largely because of its versatility. If you’re into cozy two-player games, the new duet mode can be the perfect solution. Play it during date nights or intimate sessions with a friend.
Alternatively, for those who loveplaying in large groups, the flock mode is a real treat, expanding the game to accommodate up to 7 players.
Now, I do miss the charming bird feeder dice tower from the base game. However, the new duet tokens, goal tiles, and the turn dial for the flock mode add new layers of strategy and visual charm that all make up for it.
The artwork is as stunning as ever, and the new bird powers seamlessly integrate with the existing deck. This adds depth to the gameplay without overcomplicating the mechanics. Whether you’re a two-player team or a seven-player flock, Wingspan Asia adds a vibrant new dimension to a game you already love.
Wingspan European Expansion
A Flight Through Europe’s Skies
The Wingspan European Expansion takes your game to new heights with 81 unique European bird cards, five new bonus cards, and enhanced round-end scoring mechanisms.
Unlike the Asia expansion with its new gameplay modes, the European Expansion sticks to the core of what made Wingspan great. So, it’s a great choice for those who adore the base game. It doesn’t completely overhaul any of the original mechanics and components. Instead, it infuses it with intriguing new bird abilities and interactions, like the Eurasian Hobby’s nesting power.
There’s also a nifty digital version that brings these birds to life with delightful animations and fresh artwork.
But, be ready for a bit more complexity. Some of these European birds have detailed abilities that might take a game or two to fully grasp. And yes, there are a few more pieces to keep track of, but isn’t that part of the fun?!
Wingspan Oceania Expansion

Wingspan Oceania, the second expansion for Wingspan, introduces vibrant birds from Australia and New Zealand, adding new components and strategies.
The thing that makes Oceania one of thebest board game expansionsis that it’s one of the easiest to get accustomed to—even for beginners! Unlike the European Expansion, which deepened existing gameplay, and the Asia Expansion, which added new player modes, Oceania revitalizes the game with tangible, playful twists. It introduces 95 vibrant new birds from Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific. Plus, some neat new mechanics that add depth to the game.
The real star of the show for this release is Nectar. It’s a new food type that acts as a wildcard, usable in place of any other food. It’s a game-changer, offering flexibility in playing birds or using abilities, especially when the bird feeder isn’t showing what you need. BUT, and here’s the catch: any unused Nectar disappears at the end of the round. This introduces a delightful strategic dilemma – use it wisely or lose it.
The new player mats are another standout feature. They offer two crucial new actions: resetting the bird feeder and the bird tray. Tired of bad luck with food or bird options? These mats let you shake things up, literally and figuratively, giving you more control over these elements of the game. It’s a refreshing change that keeps the gameplay dynamic and engaging.
