Minecraftis a game that provides a multitude of experiences for its players, but its most famous one is its prolific building mechanic. Regardless of your skill level or tastes, you can build just about anything you can imagine, from a cozy little village to an actual working computer.

In order to work your way up to some serious building techniques, you have to start somewhere, and most players start in Minecraft by building a simple house. A humble starter home can be vastly improved, however, by implementing different roof designs, which are sure to wow friends or any other visitors to your server.

12A-Frame

The A-Frame is an iconic roofline that originates from colder climates to keep heavy snow off of the roof. This design consists of two pitched slopes that start from the ground and go all the way up to a point. It’s a sleek, functional design that’ll make your Minecraft home incredibly cozy.

If you’re going for a home inone of Minecraft’s snowy biomes, the A-Frame could be a perfect roof to build if you want to match the weather. You could also put a snug little loft up at the steeper, part of the roof, too.

11Gable

A Gable roof is a pretty classic shape that most people will think of whenbuilding a house in Minecraft— this design is found all over the world and consists of two sloped sides meeting at the top. The Gable roof will give your buildings a nice clean, put-together finish, and a timeless look that goes well on just about any kind of building.

It’s not a design that’s going to stand out amongst the crowd, necessarily, but the Gable design is a great place to start if you’re just getting the hang of how to build some more intricate roofs.

10Curved

If you’re looking for a beautiful, elegant roof design, look no further than the Curved roof. This design used a bow-like structure to create acharming aestheticto your build, and while it is reminiscent of a barn’s roof, the Curved roof is perfect for any build you like.

The Curved design may take a bit of work for an inexperienced builder, as it uses a combination of regular blocks, stairs, and slabs to achieve a relatively smooth appearance, but the final result is more than worth it.

9Mono-Pitched

The Mono-pitched roof is another simple design that will do a ton to elevate your Minecraft house, making it a perfect intermediate build. This modern roof consists of a single sloped pitch that goes across the roof of the house.

If you’re going for a minimalist vibe, the Mono-pitched roof is the way to go to get that sleek, futuristic design that would look great for your next build. You could also combine this roof with other designs to create an eclectic look.

8Salt Box

The Salt Box roof is one of the more funky designs you’re able to use to top off one of your buildings, making for a truly unique house when it’s finished. This design was named after the containers used to store salt during colonial times and features two pitches that meet off to the side of the building in an asymmetric fashion.

All you’ll have to do is make the shorter side a much steeper roof pitch using alternating stair pieces and then make the longer, less steep side with regular blocks and slabs. This design is sure to add a colorful flair to any building you see fit.

7Butterfly

Looking at the Butterfly roof, it’s pretty easy to see how it was named, as this roofline looks like the profile of a butterfly’s wings. The Butterfly design is a staple of modernist architecture and became popular in the mid-twentieth century.

This roof actually looks more difficult to build than it really is, as all you’ll need are some regular blocks and slabs, and it really has an impactful look. The Butterfly roof will make you the talk of the town amongst the local Villagers, for sure.

6Clerestory

The Clerestory is one of the most dramatic rooflines you can build, and yet it still maintains a nice level of simplicity. All you’ll need to do is build two slopes of varying heights with a straight wall in between them, and you have a Clerestory.

For an additional design detail that is sure to wow guests, you’re able to also add some windows on that wall between the two roof surfaces. This will allow natural light in during the day, and will also add some extra visual interest both inside and outside of your home.

5Gambrel

A Gambrel roof is another cozy design full of character that will add a ton to any Minecraft build. The structure consists of two slopes on either side — a slope toward the top that gives way to a steeper slope at the bottom.

The Gambrel design is also known for being used for barns or atavern-type look, making it perfect for any themed build you might be planning. The alternating regular block and stair pieces make for a nice intermediate-level build as well.

4Mansard

A Mansard roof is characteristically known for its four sloping sides that go around the building and originates from French designs. The top of the Mansard is an almost flat slope that then meets very steep pitches at the corners of the building.

This design is incredibly cute and makes for a perfect cottage-like look. you’re able to even put some little windows on the sides of the roof that come down over the walls to add some extra detail and bring some natural light into your house.

3Spire Roof

The spire roof is perfect for any castle or tower build that you have in your world. Getting the ‘point’ can be tricky but thankfully, this roof type is incredibly popular; you can find tons of tutorials across the web that take you through the process of making this point.

This type of roof fits into most large-scale builds, giving it a grand appearance. I mean, what’s more regal than a looming castle spire? you may even place this on your wizard towers to have that mystical effect.
