Disney+

Disney Plus is Disney’s very own streaming service. It contains many movies and TV shows that the company has the rights to. So, there is content for fans of Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and more. And the service offers a few different plans.

The Princess Bride

This 1987 cult classic is a perfect blend of swashbuckling action, hilarious dialogue, and a love story that will have you rooting for Westley (Cary Elwes) and Buttercup (Robin Wright) the whole way.

Westley, a simple farmhand with a heart of gold (and a penchant for saying “As you wish” in the most swoon-worthy way), sets off on a daring adventure to rescue his true love Buttercup from the clutches of the conniving Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon).

Along the way, Westley encounters a cast of unforgettable characters, including the witty and deadly Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), whose relentless pursuit of revenge for his father’s death is punctuated by his iconic line:

“You killed my father. Prepare to die.”

But don’t be fooled by the seriousness of that quote; The Princess Bride is full of laugh-out-loud moments. From the Rodent of Unusual Size to the epic battle of wits against a Sicilian with six fingers on his right hand, this movie is a masterclass in witty banter and slapstick humor.

Elemental

Pixar’s got a hidden gem on Disney Plus that speaks to the heart of any first-generation kid: Elemental. This 2023 film takes you to Element City, a bustling metropolis where fire folks live next door to water people (not ideal for plumbing).

Ember, a spirited firecracker (voiced by Leah Lewis), longs to explore the world beyond her fiery neighborhood. Enter Wade, a chill water dude (Mamoudou Athie) who goes with the flow, maybe a little too much for Ember’s taste.

Their clash of personalities might sizzle (literally for Ember), but together, they discover that getting along, even when different, is the most magical adventure. Elemental is a beautiful story about finding your place in a new world, all wrapped up in Pixar’s signature animation and humor. So grab some tissues (for the emotional bits, not the fire!), cuddle up with the fam, and get ready to see yourself in Ember’s fiery spirit.

10 Things I Hate About You

10 Things I Hate About You is theperfectthrowback movie. This 1999 classic is a hilarious and heartwarming take on Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.”

Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) falls for Bianca Stratford (Larisa Oleynik), the popular girl at school. But the only way he can date her is if her super-independent and rebellious older sister Kat (Julia Stiles) gets a boyfriend, too. In comes Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger), a brooding bad boy with a heart of gold (and a permanent smirk that will steal yoursswoon). Cameron convinces Patrick to take Kat on a wild ride but sparks fly in a way none of them expected.

Get ready for laugh-out-loud moments, a killer soundtrack (hello, 90s alt rock!), and a surprising amount of sweetness beneath the scheming.

Coco

Pixar strikes gold again with Coco, a visually stunning and emotionally powerful film waiting to warm your heart. This 2017 film is a beautiful celebration of Mexican culture, particularly the Day of the Dead.

Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez), a young boy with a passion for music, dreams of becoming a renowned musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt). But Miguel’s family has a generations-old ban on music, shrouding his past in mystery.

In a twist of fate, Miguel finds himself in the dazzling Land of the Dead, a bustling metropolis filled with deceased relatives! Here, Miguel teams up with the charming trickster Héctor (Gael García Bernal) to unravel his family’s history and unlock the secrets behind his musical dreams.

Coco is packed with catchy music that will have you tapping your toes, and the story is a heartwarming exploration of family, forgiveness, and cherishing loved ones, both living and passed on. As Miguel’s journey unfolds, prepare for a few tears (happy and sad) because Coco is a film that will touch your heart and stay with you long after the credits roll.

Mary Poppins

Andrews is practically perfect in every way as Mary Poppins, the enigmatic nanny who arrives with her talking umbrella and a bottomless carpetbag full of wonder. With a spoonful of sugar and a firm but caring hand, Mary Poppins helps the Banks children, Jane (Karen Dotrice) and Michael (Matthew Garlick), rediscover the joy of imagination and adventure.

Get ready for iconic songs like “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “Let’s Go Fly a Kite,” and “A Spoonful of Sugar,” all guaranteed to get stuck in your head (in the best way possible). Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer to this delightful film, “Mary Poppins” is a must-watch for the whole family.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Looking for a spooky but sweet flick toget your little ones in the Halloween spirit? This Tim Burton classic isn’t quite a Christmas movie, nor quite a Halloween movie, but that’s exactly what makes it perfect for both!

Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, is bored with the same old tricks and scares. Yearning for something new, he stumbles upon the magical world of Christmas and becomes obsessed with the holiday’s joy. However, Jack’s interpretation of Christmas is a tad… nightmarish.

Despite some spooky imagery and kooky characters, “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is a heartwarming tale about embracing what makes you unique and the importance of finding your own happiness. Plus, the catchy tunes and dazzling animation will have the whole family singing along.

Toy Story

Pixarhas created many excellent movies since the studio has been around, and it all started with the originalToy Story. To this day, it remains one of Pixar andDisney’s best movies. Its narrative revolves around a group of toys that are actually living beings, but they only walk and talk when humans aren’t around.

The group is led by their unofficial leader, Woody, who begins to get jealous when a new toy gets added to the crew. It’s a simple but well-told tale that has plenty of humor and heart. Plus, the animation is impressive and has held up well all these years since its release.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

While theMCU’sgreatness generally comes from the sum of its parts and how it all fits together, some of the movies are just excellent standalone films. This is the case for The Winter Soldier, which is less of a bombastic superhero affair and more of a grounded spy thriller.

It follows Captain America, who is still trying to adapt to modern-day America, as he begins to uncover a sinister plot. He’s joined by Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, and Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow. The trio goes on an exciting and compelling adventure filled with some stellar action scenes and a surprising amount of emotion. That depth is a result of the brilliant performances of the main cast.

Hidden Figures

When people think of Disney, they typically think of animated movies or, in more recent times, superhero flicks. But Disney Plus also contains a bunch of very serious dramas. Hidden Figures is among the best of them.

It’s a biographical film based on the 1960s Space Race. More specifically, it’s about a group of black female mathematicians who worked for NASA at the time and played a large part in giving the United States an advantage over the Soviet Union. The true story is compelling, and this movie tells the tale in an equally captivating way. This is helped by the fact Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe give wonderful performances in the lead roles.

Hamilton

Hamilton is very different from pretty much all the other movies on Disney Plus. This is because the full movie is a genuine Broadway production of a Hamilton play. So, as you would if you visited the theater, you get to see the actors performing on stage, but through the lens of the camera. It makes for a unique viewing experience.

But that’s not the only reason this movie is worth watching. It’s a genuinely enjoyable and well-performed musical about the life of founding father Alexander Hamilton and the American Revolution. Since it’s a musical, there are plenty of good songs that you can sing along to with the sing-a-long version, which is also on Disney Plus.
