Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Princeis quick to thrust you into the thick of it - after just a few cutscenes and a short introduction to gameplay, you’re introduced to the main feature of the game - monsters and being a monster wrangler. This all begins with, naturally, your first monster.
After confirming that you want to be a monster wrangler, you’re given a short quiz to determine what sort of monster should be your starter. There are four different options to choose from based on your answers, and each monster is very different.

The quiz delivered to you by Monty is short and sweet - you’ll be asked either two or three questions, and your answers will determine the monster he thinks it right for you.
If you see the monster Monty suggests and don’t like it, you’ll get the chance to start the quiz over again!

Which Is The Best Starter Monster?
While all four potential starter monsters vary significantly, in the long run,it doesn’t really matter which one you pick. You can have a party of up to four monsters to cover all roles, and thanks to how easy it is to scout more party members, you’ll soon have more monsters than you know what to do with.
Of the four, however,the Cruelcumber is likely the best pick. It has theBlowy SlasherTalent, which means it can get the Woosh spell very early.
TheWooshspell targets the entire enemy party, which is incredibly handy for decimating theearlygame arena challengeswhich you’ll need to overcome before you can get into synthesis.
