Baldur’s Gate 3’s unintendedPlayStationconsole exclusivity could come to an end sooner rather than later. It’s being reported that the behemoth RPG is finally coming toXbox Series X/Son December 6, sticking to thelate 2023 timeframe that Larian previously promised.

While unconfirmed, the December release date is being reported byExputer, citing multiple sources close to the ongoing Xbox playtests. According to these sources, Baldur’s Gate 3 will launch on December 6 as long as the tests don’t turn up any major issues that can’t be addressed in time. And even then, this date still givesLarianroom to push it back a little further, while still getting the game out before 2024.

This report comes after some fears among fans that Baldur’s Gate 3 wouldn’t make it to Xbox this year, and would be pushed back into 2024. Larian, however, has repeatedlydenied this, reaffirming its commitment to get it out as soon as possible. Larian CEO Swen Vinckecommentedon this earlier in the week, saying that the port is “still on schedule for this year”, with a release date coming “when we’re sure it’s done”.

While many Xbox owners without a PlayStation or a decent gaming PC will be relieved to finally have access to the game, we can imagine Microsoft will be pretty excited too. Previous reports have indicated that the gaming giant completely underestimated Baldur’s Gate 3’s potential, offering Larian a relatively low figure to secure its release on Game Pass.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has had an unorthodox release schedule from the very start. After a few years in Early Access, it launched on PC on July 26, 2025. It hit PS5 a month later on September 6.

As we now know, it won’t be coming to Game Pass at all, at least not any time soon. In fact, it’s only able to get onto the Xbox after Microsoft relaxed its rules about feature parity between Series X and S.

In an Xbox first, Series S players will not have access to Baldur’s Gate 3’s local multiplayer, but Series X users will. So far, this seems to be the biggest concession Microsoft has allowed, and it was only granted once Baldur’s Gate 3 was proven to be a runaway success that the platform desperately needed. You’ll still be able to buddy up with online multiplayer, although this isn’t cross-platform just yet. Save files will be cross-plat, though, so you’ll be able to transfer campaigns between systems, if you own the game on multiple platforms.
