Summary

Stay calm everyone, it’s happening, and it’s happening to more of us than we anticipated. There had been rumblings for a while that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be getting a physical release, but initially those rumblings pointed to the massively popular RPG only being available physically in Japan.Larian Studioshinted that more than justBaldur’s Gate 3’s Japanese fans would be getting a physical release earlier this week, and now it has confirmed everyone will have the chance to own a physical copy of theDungeons & Dragonsgame via its Deluxe Edition.

“The Deluxe Edition forPS5,Xbox, andPCincludes the Digital Deluxe edition, as well as exclusive physical feelies,” Larian confirmed viaa post from the Baldur’s Gate 3 X accounton Thursday afternoon. There will only be a Deluxe Edition - so no Standard or Collector’s options - and it costs $79.99. That might seem like a lot for one game, but when Larian promises additional goodies with the Deluxe Edition, it really means it.

There is actually a Collector’s Edition of Baldur’s Gate 3 that has been available since launch. However, it doesn’t include a physical copy of the game, just a digital one, and it sold out very quickly.

Not only will you finally have the opportunity to actually own Baldur’s Gate 3 on an actual disc (on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S, by the way) but you will also get a three-disc original soundtrack, a map to peruse without even needing to start up the game, a mind flayer poster, stickers, patches, and a fancy box to keep it all in. Again, and this is really worth noting since most soundtracks in Deluxe Editions nowadays are digital copies, all of the stuff listed there will be in the box with a copy of the game.

WHERE TO PLAY

Baldur’s Gate 3 is the long-awaited next chapter in the Dungeons & Dragons-based series of RPGs. Developed by Divinity creator Larian Studios, it puts you in the middle of a mind flayer invasion of Faerûn, over a century after the events of its predecessor.

That Baldur’s Gate 3 really is getting a physical release isn’t the only big news Larian dropped about the game today. The studio promised its hit game would come to Xbox before the end of 2023and despite being somewhat silent on the matter, that promise will seemingly be kept. Larian has told anyone waiting for Baldur’s Gate 3 to arrive on Xbox to tune intoThe Game Awardson December 7, assuring those eager to dive in that it’s still on track to be onMicrosoft’s consoles at some point in December.

The Game Awards could end up being a very big night for Larian and Baldur’s Gate 3. On top of announcing the game’s Xbox release date, there’s a very real chance it gets voted Game of the Year. An absolutely incredible achievement should that happen as not only have the last 12 months been some of the strongest when it comes to big and popular releases, but up until a month or two before Baldur’s Gate 3’s release, the hype for it was pretty subdued.
