Baldur’s Gate 3fans have been hard at work addinga whole load of different species to the game, but usually, they’re pulled from the incredibly wide variety of existingDungeons & Dragonsoptions. ghouls0rules is stepping out of that multiverse entirely, bringingThe Elder Scrolls’dunmer to the Sword Coast.
We visited their homeland inMorrowind, got called outlanders and n’wah, and were subjected to ashy wastes as we navigated half-naked skooma addicts, hoards of cliff racers, and bloodthirsty politics. Now, they have to put up with having a tadpole lodged in their head as they crawl through goblin camps and cursed shadowlands. It’s only fair.

You can download ghouls0rules' modhere, called The Dunmer - Playable Dark Elf Race.
There are six subraces based on each of the houses in Morrowind, including Dagoth and the Ashlanders. The mod also comes with seven custom spells that have their own VFX, unique icons and heads, and a bunch of Elder Scrolls-inspired tattoos and piercings.
There’s a lot of lore to the dunmer, but here’s a crash course for anyone who downloads the mod and wants to know their history. Their ashy skin isn’t natural, but a curse bestowed upon them by Azura when the Tribunal rose to godhood, betraying their oath. Their predecessors were the Chimer, who had pale golden skin.
In the past, they enslaved Khajiit and Argonians, deeming them as little more than “beast races”, and went to war with the dwarves. Of course, not all dunmer are evil, and in games likeThe Elder Scrolls Online, we’ve seen them side with the nords and argonians, but a bubbly dunmer is pretty rare. Their closest Baldur’s Gate 3 counterparty is most likely the drow.
If you’re playing as a magic class, your best bet is a Telvanni dunmer. They’re dark elves that live in giant mushroom towers that you have to use levitate to reach, ensuring those who aren’t adept at magical spells can’t bother them. They’re elitist, even clashing with the Mage’s Guild in Morrowind. Think Gale dialed up to ten.
If you want to take things a step further, there’s another mod compliments that this one perfectly -The Elder Scrolls Starting Spells. It adds flames and healing to make Skyrim fans feel right at home, and it’s only fitting that a low-level dunmer leaping across the planes would have their basic spells at hand from the get-go. Of course, flames won’t do much by Act 3, but it’ll singea few goblinsat least.
