Act Three ofBaldur’s Gate 3does not take you directly into the city. You end up in Rivington first, and it’s your job to find a way into Baldur’s Gate. There are two checkpoints guarded by Flaming Fists that you have to find a way to pass by to get there.
This article details every possible way to get past these checkpoints so that you may reach the Lower City and the bulk of Act Three. If you thought Rivington was busy and full of quests, just wait until you get past Wyrm’s Rock Fortress.

Getting into the Lower City marks an important part of the Baldur’s Gate 3 story and indicates you are near the finish line. Everything that players have dealt with up until now is to get to the Lower City.
How To Peacefully Pass Into Wyrm’s Fortress
After the first checkpoint, you will reach a new waypoint titled South Span of Wyrm’s Crossing. Once again, at the end of this road are more guards declaring that you shall not pass by order of Gortash.
You need an official passin order to enter the Lower City. That, orpersuade the guardswith a dialogue skill check.
“I’m here to protect Archduke-Elect Gortash”
Persuasion
“Such a bother. What if I were to contribute to the ‘Flaming Fist Orphans’ Fund?'”
“An assassin is in pursuit of Duke Ravengard. I need to warn him!”
Deception
“Baldur’s Gate is my home. I don’t need permission to enter.”
Baldurian
Some items in the game increase your chances of a successful dice roll. TheShapeshifter’s Boon Ring increases your chances of a successful Skill Checkwhen disguised. TheEnvoy’s Amulet grants +2 Persuasionto the wearer.
There are a lot of dialogue check options here to convince the guards to let you pass, but some players have found that, even with a successful check, Blaze Elin will not let them through. Luckily, we have several more options for passing this section, which are listed below this entry.
How To Get A Pass
The right way to gain access into Wyrm’s Rock Fortress and the Lower City is by acquiring a pass.There are multiple passesyou can find in the game.
All passes will be found in Sharess' Caress, located directly beside the South Span of Wyrm’s Crossing waypoint.
How To Sneak Into Wyrm’s Rock Fortress
Flying Across The Bridge
If all else fails, make your own path. To the left of the drawn bridge and guards, you can find a ladder against some buildings. Thisladder will take you to a higher levelthat will then allow you toaccess the rooftops. You will need one of the multiple specialabilities that allow you to travel great distancesin order to reach the rooftops and beyond.
The plan here is to reach the rooftops and then travel through the air from the rooftop to the other side of the bridge.
Druid subclass Circle of The Moon at Level 4.
Jump
Using Githyanki Psionic: Jump, Enhanced Leap spell, or with increased Strength.
Misty Step(Level 2 spell)
Scrolls sold by vendors or from being Githyanki, Sorcerer, Warlock, or Wizard.
Teleportation(Level 7 spell)
Bard, Sorcerer, or Wizard.
From theleft side of the drawbridge, you will needspecial abilities like Fly or Wildshapeto access the cliffside and climb up. You will find a ladder and a door that needs unlocking. The fortress can be entered here and will lead you to Lord Gortash.
You can also access either side of the fortress by parkouring with these same abilities or with party members that have a greater Jump distance. Both sides of the bridge can be accessed if you have the means to Jump or fly across.
Parkouring Along The Sides
From theright side of the drawbridge, you can walk past the Steel Watcher and down a ladder to get closer to the lower cliffside. You canuse Jump to access the ground, but you will probably receive a fair amount ofdamage. It is better to use one of the aforementioned abilities.
You can continue walking along the right side (see photo above) where there is ahole in the wall. Passing aPerception check herewill grant access to the fortress prison. With this path, you will have to find a way tosneak out of the prisonin order to reach the main level and meet Lord Gortash.
When entering the prison, it’s probably best to have someone with the ability to sneak, disguise, and go invisibleenter the prison by themselves. Once that character reaches the main floor and the entrance to the Lower City,they can get the next checkpoint for the rest of the teamto teleport to.
Players can also justpurposefully get arrestedto end up in the Wyrm Fortress Prison and find their way upstairs by sneaking or killing guards.
How To Enter The Lower City Of Baldur’s Gate
The hardest part is getting past the two checkpoints in Rivington and the South Span, which is easiest done by parkouring along the sides of each bridge entrance. Once you enter Wyrm’s Rock Fortress’s main floor, the first Steel Watcher to see you will order you to attend Lord Gortash’s ceremony, and Gortash will speak directly to you through the robot.
You can attend this ceremony, which will, in turn,lower the drawbridge and allow your other party members to enter.
Attending the ceremony is not immediately necessary. You can find your way upstairs (if you were in the prison) and outside where the drawbridge is. From this hall, you can walk down tofind another drawbridge and the entrance to the Lower City.
