Summary

If you’re a Hoyoverse fan, you know how much it love having characters cross over from its other games such as Raiden Mei and Yae Sakura from Honkai Impact 3rd (HI3) coming to Genshin Impact in the form of Raiden Shogun and Yae Miko. The tradition continues inHonkai: Star Rail, the fourth installment in the Honkai series, as familiar faces return with brand-new backgrounds and personalities.

While the characters may share the same appearance and names as their doppelgangers, Honkai: Star Rail follows its own story and isn’t a direct sequel to HI3’s story. This means the characters aren’t actually the same person – well, except for one.

10Kafka And Kafka (Stigmata)

First on the list is a character whose counterpart isn’t even a playable character. In HI3, Kafka is a Stigmata that can be equipped by characters to gain buffssimilar to Relics. She’s portrayed as a sickly girl who loves writing and never fails to smile despite her illness. In Honkai: Star Rail, Kafka is a completely different character. She’s a member of the Stellaron Hunters and is more of an anti-hero rather than a villain. She is described as a calm, collected and professional beauty who doesn’t know how to feel fear and uses Spirit Whisper to hypnotize and manipulate her enemies.

9Silver Wolf And Haxxor Bunny

In HI3, multiple versions of Bronya exist, but from different universes. One of them is Bronie, otherwise known as Haxxor Bunny, a skilled and rebellious hacker who possesses the ability to materialize equipment out of thin air.Honkai: Star Rail also has a genius hacker, this time goingby the name of Silver Wolf. Like Kafka, Silver Wolf is a member of the Stellaron Hunters who’s often tasked with bypassing tight security and is a hardcore gamer. Unlike Haxxor Bunny who’s an alternate version of Bronya in HI3, Silver Wolf and Bronya are two different people in Honkai: Star Rail.

8Himeko And Murata Himeko

Himeko comes back to the Honkai series in Honkai: Star Rail after her tragic fate in HI3. In this universe, Himeko is the one who fixed the Astral Express after it got stranded on her home planet and now serves as its elegant and dependable navigator as well as a parental figure to the main trio. She dreams of witnessing the vast starry sky and likes brewing hand-made coffee.

In HI3, Himeko was a teacher at St. Freya Academy and is also a parental figure as well as the squad captain of the main trio, which included Bronya. Unlike her navigator counterpart, Murata Himeko preferred drinking alcohol and was reckless but brave. After a tragic turn of events, HI3 fans were overjoyed to see Himeko again, albeit as a different person.

7Bronya Rand And Bronya Zaychik

Bronya Rand takes inspiration from Bronya Zaychik, but more specifically, Silverwing Bronya in A Post-Honkai Odyssey (APHO), an open world map in HI3. In this map you get to play as a grown-up version of her compared to her actual, younger version featured in the main story.

In APHO, Silverwing Bronya is the Acting Captain of the Anti-Honkai Squad No. 2 whereas regular Bronya is a student in St. Freya Academy who later becomes the Herrscher of Reason and Truth. In Honkai: Star Rail, Bronya becomes theSupreme Guardian of Belobog. She’s also the adopted daughter of Cocolia in both games.

6Seele And Seele Vollerei

Another adopted daughter of Cocolia, Seele in HI3 is kind, gentle and caring, as well as Bronya’s best friend. However, underneath this sweet exterior lies a sinister alter ego known as Veliona, the Stigma of the 6th Herrscher who’s the complete opposite of her.

Meanwhile,Honkai: Star Rail’s Seeleis a member of Wildfire, a band of freedom fighters living in Belobog’s Underworld. Her brash personality is similar to Veliona, while her appearance resembles a grown-up version of HI3’s Seele, keeping the butterfly theme and relation to the Quantum element. At the end of Belobog’s story, she becomes friends with Bronya despite their differences, much like how they were inseparable in their prequel game.

5Natasha And Natasha Ciora/Raven

Natasha is one of the characters who changed the most compared to her HI3 counterpart. In Honkai: Star Rail, Natasha is a kind and caring doctor in the Underworld who cares deeply about the children living there. She may look harmless, but in truth, she is the secret leader of Wildfire.

In HI3, Natasha Ciora, otherwise known as Raven, is a merciless and cold mercenary who isn’t afraid of spilling blood on her hands. Despite her fearsome appearance, Raven also holds a soft spot for children, much like Natasha.

4Sushang And Li Sushang

Although Sushang isn’t heavily involved in HI3’s main story, she has a more prominent role in the Seven Swords visual novel as one of the protagonists. She’s also the daughter of one of Fu Hua’s disicples known as the seven words.

In Honkai: Star Rail, the Cloud Knight Sushangplays a key role in the Xianzhou story, helping Dan Heng and Luocha navigate through the Luofu safely during the Stellaron crisis. She’s a hardworking Cloud Knight who aspires to become a renowned figure in Xianzhou.

3Yanqing And Ma Yanqing/Ma Feima

It might strike you as a surprise to find out that Yanqing is an old man in HI3. Choosing to go by the name of Feima, he’s also a character from Seven Swords and is the only male disciple. No one knows what Hoyoverse was thinking when they decided to age him down, but it’s certainly a nice twist and opens new possibilities for other crossover characters in the future.

In Honkai: Star Rail, the sword prodigy Yanqingis the youngest lieutenant of the Cloud Knights in the Xianzhou Luofu and also General Jingyuan’s disciple. Feima’s younger version can also be seen in the visual novel.

2Luocha And Otto Apocalypse/Void Archives

Though they don’t share the same name, there’s no denying that Luocha and Otto look terrifyingly alike. Otto was driven by the desire to revive his great love, Kallen Kaslana, going as far as rewriting the makeup of the universe to change her fate at the price of his life. Void Archives copies Otto’s likeness and returns as the main antagonist in APHO.

In Honkai: Star Rail, little is known about Luocha. He’s a foreign trader in the Luofu who’s anexpert in medicineand carries a suspicious coffin with him. Though his identity remains a mystery, there’s a non-zero possibility that Luocha might in fact be Void Archives in Honkai: Star Rail. At least, one certain character thinks so…

1Welt Yang

Why is it just a single “Welt Yang”? Well, it’s because the Welt from HI3 and Honkai: Star Rail are the same person, making him the only character who’s confirmed to have traveled between the two games’ universes. Welt served as a pivotal character in HI3’s story as the former sovereign of the Anti-Entropy as well as the Herrscher of Reason before Bronya.

After the events of the Alien Space manga and APHO where an alien invasion sought to plague the Earth, Welt infiltrated one of their spaceships in order to save other worlds that might be in danger, leading him to be stranded in outer space and later finding his way to the Astral Express. Several HI3 characters can be seen in his splash art, including Void Archives. In Luocha’s companion mission, Welt recognizes Luocha as a version of Otto and experiences flashbacks to his encounter with Void Archives in APHO.
