The Sims 4: For Rentis the kind of expansion that sounds like it contains far less than it does. Its main feature is the addition of customizable rental units. However, there is far more to this expansion than a new world and the ability to build apartments. The new world has some surprises and the rest of the pack is also crammed with new features.
We take a look at all the different features of the pack and what they bring to the game, so you can decide if For Rent is a pack that will fit your playstyle.
11New Lot Type - Residential Rentals
Residential rentals are a new lot type and enable you to build freely and have up to six separate rental units on one lot. They are completely flexible as you simply choose which rooms to designate to a unit, as well as which ones are shared between all units on the lot.
This means you’re able to build anything from apartment blocks to townhouses. You can also build a large house, live in it, and simply rent out a room or other small space within it.
10New World - Tomarang
The new world of Tomarang is split into two neighbourhoods and comprises nine editable lots. Two of these are rental units, and there are also two homes, one occupied and one empty. The community lots are a national park and a lounge, with the other three lots being empty.
The lot sizes vary and the two neighbourhoods have different vibes. One is more of a city feel, with busy streets and many apartment blocks, both livable and decorative. The other is more spread out with a focus on beautiful views of water and forest areas.
9New World Events - The Night Market and Tiger Sanctuary
Tomarang has two new world features. The first is the Night Market, where you may sample and purchase local delicacies. It’s also a very social event and Sims will congregate when the market is on. Those with the trait will especially enjoy this cultural event that allows them to tap into their roots.
The Tiger Sanctuary is in the Koh Sahpa neighborhood and here you can support the work of the charity, visit the tigers, or attempt to sneak in under cover of darkness. Unfortunately, the event is not interactive, but you will get a nice buff, a collectible and some fun tiger facts from it.
8New Social Events - Neighbourhood Potluck And Pool Party
A neighbourhood potluck is a chance to invite around your neighbours and share food together. Each person brings a dish and everyone tucks in. This event is great for building relationships, and a success rewards you with a new grill.

7New Career - Landlord
Sims can now own property and become a landlord. To do this, you can purchase a pre-made rental building, or you can make your own. Sims can also choose to just rent out a small part of their own house.
Landlords have a responsibility to keep properties maintained as well as fix any issues as they arise. You’ll need to do this promptly in order to keep a high rating as a landlord. If your rating falls, tenants will be harder to find, and you won’t be able to charge as much rent.
6New Activities - Marbles And Hopscotch
Two new outdoor activities have been added in the form of hopscotch and marbles. There are two sizes of hopscotch and this decorative item can be added anywhere outdoors and used by all ages.
Marbles are collected in a jar and then played using a circle, which again is an outdoor item. However, marbles can only be played by children, developing their motor skills.
5New Social Interactions - Eavesdropping, Snooping, And Blackmail
Sims can now choose to eavesdrop on their neighbours, snoop around, or even attempt to break in. This is especially useful if you have evil, mischievous or kleptomaniac Sims.
Options to spy on your neighbours are available by clicking the front door.
Sims can learn a lot of gossip this way, and anything especially juicy can be used to blackmail your neighbours. Now you can be the village gossip easier than ever before.
4Four New Aspirations
The four new aspirations are:Seeker of Secrets,Villainous Valentine, Five-Star Property Owner, and Font of Tomarani Knowledge. Each one focuses on a different aspect of the pack.
Seeker of Secrets requires you to master eavesdropping and blackmail, while Villanous Valentine focuses on focusing your mischief skills on breaking up couples and disrupting the community vibes. Five-Star Property owners seek to be good landlords, while the Fount of Tomarani Knowledge seeks local culture and history knowledge.
3New Lot Challenge And Death - Mold
Mold is a new lot challenge that encourages the development of toxic mold in properties. There are two types of mold with one being uncomfortable but not fatal, and one offering the most gruesome Sim death we’ve seen since My First Pet Stuff.
Mold can be encouraged by ignoring trash, leaving counters, showers, toilets, and sinks unwashed, and generally being unhygenic.
Your Sim will require quite prolonged exposure to the toxic type of mold in order to contract a mold-based illness and die. However, they will become very uncomfortable around all types of mold.
2New Create A Sim Fashion
For Rent has a good selection of clothing, comprising 142 items in total, many of which can be used by multiple age groups and all genders. Many items are mix-and-match tops, shirts, t-shirts, skirts, shorts, or trousers and the style is heavily Southeast-Asian themed in line with the pack.
Items are wearable in a variety of situations, with more formal one-piece options also available. Jewelry, shoes, hats, and new tattoos round out the selection which also includes a handful of hairstyles.
