Summary

The Last Faithis a Metroidvania game that shares a lot of similarities with the games in this genre, especially Blasphemous. These games are famous for being tough, with challenging surroundings, enemies, and bosses. In order to overcome them, you need both patience and skill.

When you begin playing the Last Faith, you get to pick one of the four available classes in the game. Each class has its strengths, and the one you choose depends on how you like to play. However, a couple of them really shine compared to the others.

Instinct

The Rogue class is all about up-close combat, focusing on melee attacks. It has a decent HP and the highest Dexterity level among the four classes. Dexterity mainly boosts the damage of light weapons, and there are a few weapon options in the game that scale with this stat. If you’re new to the game, we don’t recommend starting with this class, as it may take some time to master and forms the foundation of a Dexterity build.

Interestingly, Dexterity doesn’t affect many other aspects of the game except for a few resistances, so its primary role is to increase damage with Dexterity weapons. If you enjoy using light weapons and a fast attack pattern, the Rogue class is an excellent choice for your first playthrough.

Left: Stargazer class - Right: Player casting a lightning spell on an enemy the Last Faith

As the name suggests, the Marksman class focuses on using ranged weapons like pistols and bows. If you prefer attacking from afar and keeping a distance from enemies, this class is perfect for you. It boosts the highest Instinct level, which increases the damage of all ranged weapons and expands your Fate pool for using Stigmas more often. The Marksman also has a decent HP pool, allowing you to endure damage.

Left: Brawler class - Right: Player attacking an enemy with an axe the Last Faith

While this might sound great, keep in mind that ammo isn’t unlimited. You’ll need to collect it as you progress through the game, so relying solely on ranged weapons isn’t an option. It’s essential to have a melee weapon as a backup when you run out of ammo. This class is good overall, especially if you can master ranged combat and enjoy using guns, similar tothe gameplay style in Bloodborne.

The Stargazer is the mage class in this game, boasting the highest Mind stats that enhance your mana pool. This allows you to use spells more frequently. It’s a magical ranged playstyle, focusing on weakening enemies with spells before delivering the final blow up close. Interestingly, even though you choose this class, you won’t start with a spell like in most Souls games. Instead, you’ll have the opportunity to acquire a few spells early on.

To make the most of the damage scaling as you level up your Mind stat, it’s essential to have a Mind weapon. In case you run out of mana, you’ll need a stock of Blue Haemolymph Shard to replenish your mana pool and keep casting spells consistently. If you enjoy being a spellcaster, the Stargazer is the ideal class to begin your journey with.

The Brawler is what we commonly call a Strength class. It focuses on wielding heavy weapons and boasts the highest HP level, designed for close-range combat and dealing hefty damage to enemies. Not only is this class friendly for beginners, but it will likely be the go-to choice for many. Once you choose this class, it might be a bit challenging to switch to a different playstyle, but it’s still doable.

Opting for the Brawler class gives you a head start in enduring more damage due to the high HP and dealing greater damage compared to other classes in the game. Moreover, there are more weapons in the game that scale with Strength. If you enjoy confronting enemies face to face and delivering raw, powerful blows, this class will certainly satisfy you.
