Rockstar Gamesis among the biggest game developers in the world. Their games have not only been critically acclaimed, but hugely successful. They often make large, open world video games where players can explore, discover, and experiment. But one of the best things about Rockstar Games is the stories they tell, and the characters in them.

The characters of Rockstar Games’ games are often satirical, and loosely based on real people. Or sometimes overtly based on them. They can be relatable, and sympathetic, or outlandish, chaotic, and bizarre. There’s a large variety of protagonists in Rockstar’s Games, and some of them are among the best in gaming.

8James ‘Jimmy’ Hopkins – Bully

Jimmy Hopkins is just a kid. A kid whose parents have abandoned him at a boarding school he wants nothing to do with. He was once and continues to be a bad boy on the school ground, not afraid of breaking the rules and doing whatever he wants.

Throughout his time at Bullworth Academy, Jimmy makes many friends and enemies. He then starts to seize power by taking down the leaders of the various cliques in the school. Jimmy is a selfish individual, and not all that likable or sympathetic, but you have to admire his commitment to getting what he wants, however he can.

Tommy might not be the most sympathetic individual. He’s a mobster, who commits several murders, steals cars, deals in drugs, and engages in a lot of other heinous crimes and activities. But he is charming and charismatic, with an engaging personality. Tommy was Rockstar’s first voiced protagonist too, and the late Ray Liotta lent a lot of energy to the role.

Niko is one of Rockstar’s best, most relatable characters. He’s a man who is along for a reluctant ride, who’s forced into committing crime to aid those he loves. He’s a hopeful individual on a rags-to-riches path. He’s also funny, sarcastic, and not all that bad of a guy.

He’s resourceful, capable of hunting, building, shooting, and pretty much anything except swimming. John is one of Rockstar’s most likable, relatable, and engaging characters, as well as one of the most grounded they’ve ever made.

Red Dead Redemption 2 - Arthur Morgan aims his revolver in a sunny interior
