Summary
Do you remember playing pretend fights and making up powers with your friends as kids? One kid would claim they could fly, while another says invisibility was their weapon of choice against the fight of evil. Maybe you’d mimic your favorite superhero, or maybe your inspiration came from a villain. The possibilities were endless.
But when you’re able to run into an ability inanimethat is so out of the realm of what you’d imagine, so unique, you can’t help but find out what are the limits of such an ability. These protagonists are but a small sampling of what powers can be for a protagonist and how it can motivate you to find your favorite.

8Zero Fragment, Adam Blade
Needless
Adam Blade is a Needless man of mystery. You first meet himinside a dilapidated churchwearing priest’s robes, but he isn’t a priest. Adam will get beat up completely in a fight, only to pull off an astronomically impossible comeback in the end. He’s a protagonist, but you also find yourself not rooting for him due to his…proclivities.
How does he come from near defeat every time? His Zero Fragment allows him the ability to take any skill that an enemy Needless launches at him, learn it, and increase his power significantly. He goes through some ups and downs when coming in contact with the big bad, but that’s of little significance to his will to live.

7Elemental Breathing Technique, Tanjiro Kamado
Demon Slayer
TheDemon SlayerCorps has a series of techniques fashioned after the elements found in nature:
Most of the other Corps Members fall into one of these elements but generally only wield a single element.

Tanjiro started as a single-element user as well but has come to embrace the fire of his ancestors with both Hinokami Kagura and eventually Sun Breathing, which naturally came more easily to him. With his drive and ambition, a little elemental incompatibility isn’t going to stop him from mastering them both.
6One For All, Izuku Midoriya
My Hero Academia
You know that feeling when a character in a show finally finds the next level and unlocks their new power? If it’s done right, it can make you feel like you’re the one breaking your next threshold. Watching Deku come into his own from just a quirkless boy to one of the strongest up-and-coming heroes from UA Academy is fantastic.
The special thing about watching his growth is how each of his powers acts as a passing of the torch in a way. As each quirk unlocks, the memories and thoughts ofOne for All userspast open up to Deku and give him their resolve.

5Life Fibers, Ryuko Matoi
Kill La Kill
The phrase ‘Survival of the Fittest’ applies in the way you’d think it does in Kill La Kill. Sure, chances are if you’re strong, you’re likely going to already have a uniform of some sort. Such is the norm at Honnouji Academy. Yet even in knowing and manufacturing these clothes using life fibers, they weren’t prepared for Ryuko Matoi.
Not only does she show up able to wear and use the Kamui (the strongest pair of clothes that exist), but it’s discovered that she is a human/life fiber hybrid. Along with her best fit and best friend Senketsu, they work together as the ultimate weapon to stop evil from invading the earth.

4Titan Powers, Eren Yeager
Attack On Titan
First, if you haven’t seenAttack On Titanand like anime, you’re doing yourself a disservice! The Journey of Eren Yeager and the gang is not an easy one to witness, but it’s fully worth experiencing at least once. What starts as a ‘simple’ story of a boy wanting revenge turns into a harrowing tale with no one truly the hero or villain.
To put it simply, Eren has gained quite a few powers that range from superhuman strength to the ability to exist at once and manipulate the memories of those around him in a way that no one who had these powers before ever could.

3Sonic Minimum, Nice
Hamatora
A protagonist that can move at the speed of sound isn’t anything new. Hell, One Punch Man can travel from the moon and back in a matter of seconds, and no one is impressed. It’s something that’s been done a few times and doesn’t leave room for surprises.
That’s what makes Nice’s portrayal of the same speed interesting and unique. His body turns into sound waves, and he moves in between the various frequencies of sound waves, but that’s only the beginning. Can you imagine getting hit with the power of Mach 1 straight to the face in the span of an instant? Nice is no one to take lightly.

2Anti-Magic, Asta
Black Clover
Asta is a character with an extremely strong will. He has to be because he’s the only one in the entire world that doesn’t have any natural magic ability. That alienating notion would make a lesser person despair without moving forward. Not Asta though! Instead, Asta says damn that noise, he’s going to be the Wizard King regardless of his lack of magic.
Surprising everyone, Asta gains the power of Anti-magic, which can cancel any magic attack thrown at him. That canceling effect makes him potentially the most formidable character in the show. Better to have him as an ally than an enemy, right?

1Limitless, Satoru Gojo
Jujutsu Kaisen
Tohave the powers of gravity, space, and timeis more than enough power for any other character, but for Satoru Gojo, this is only the beginning. His control of matter breaks the space-time continuum already, but his domain expansion expounds on this exponentially by creating a vast space filled with everything and nothing.
There’s no time, yet all the time in the world, you’re cast alone in space but can hear every sound and thought of the universe at the same time, so much so that you lose the function of all your senses. With all of that sensory deprivation, you are left completely at his whim.
